I also would like your suggestions on whether I should get a new HDD. I see in amazon that I can get a new drive for less than 50 bucks which looks like a good option to me. I'm not an expert, so just wanted to know if I can change the disk on my own. Here's the link to the amazon page of the product.

Hi Nevermindic,

I request you to reseat the HDD. Find the link below for instruction for the same:

Once reseated check in BIOS if the HDD is detected, I case it is not detected, navigate to ‘Maintenance’ and select ‘Load Defaults’ and then check. In case the HDD is still not detected, I suspect the HDD is faulty and needs replacement.

In case the HDD is faulty, you will be unable to recover the data nor will you be able to create recovery CDs.

The HDD you have chosen is compatible.
