So I removed the card and put it back then replug the wires and ... Bingo !!!  5 nice bars !!!

Thank you very much for your help

Now I'll try to fix my printer issue...

PareM,

Have seen Belkin Routers have problems connecting with wireless devices using WPA Security.

Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and REGISTERED OWNER and post the information back here.

What virus program and firewall are you using?

As I said, many PCs work just fine.

It's just that brand new Laptop that has some issues with the router.

Antivirus and firewall are McAfee.

The system says that the firewall is not ON and I have tried many times to turn it ON, the McAfee and/or Windows'one but it's always saying that it's not ON

The log is in French... Hope you'll find what you're looking for...

Thanks for any help.

PareM,

I see you have a valid ip address.

Did you activate McAfee or is this the trial version? If activated, get your information and I would first try removing McAfee using the McAfee Removal Tool to see if you can connect. If you connect, then restart the computer and reinstall McAfee.

Go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag number, then select your operating system. Under Network, download and install the latest drivers.

Try these tweaks....

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Click on Advanced and look for antenna diversity. If your system has antenna diversity(not sure about this adapter) change the Antenna Diversity from Auto to Aux.

Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.

McAfee is the trial version.

I did not install or activate it.

I presume it was already installed when shipped... (?)

I'll try what you told me and see if it fixes things...

I tried different things...

As you said, I uninstalled McAfee

The drivers were already installed. That was my first guess...

I changed the parameters for the network adapter (there was no antenna category to play with)

And I changed to Maximum performance on battery. The other was already on max.

The problem is the same.

If I go 20 feet from the router, there is almost no signal (1 bar) and trying to go on the web, it runs between 0-16 kb/s

My other Inspiron 15" is running fine just besides...

Any other idea ???

PareM,

I missed this, you have a Belkin router, correct?

Try changing the router to NO Security and see if you can connect. Then try WEP security and see if you can connect. Once you change to WPA seucrity, your connection problems come back, correct?

I tested witout security and with WEP and the signal is always the same... very bad

I came back to WPA-PSK TKIP for security

The changes are done from my PC (Win XP).

The router is 6 feet from the laptop, behind a wall

I can see other connections from neighbors that have 1 or 2 bars... and mine is tagged "Connected"

I forgot but I also tried WPA2 with AES with no luck

PareM,

Radio signals travel line of sight. The wall could have metal, wiring or other materials that could block the signals.

I have my wireless router on the second floor and can go may places in the area of my home.

But why would the other laptops work fine ?

Also, if I move with the laptop open 10 feet away in the same room, the same thing happens. I get 1 or 2 bars out of 5.

PareM,

Did you check to see if the antenna come off the adapter?

Could you please explain a little bit more ?
