I suggest you to click “Charge battery to 100% one time”. This wll allow the system to charge the battery only once to 100% percent and then it will continue to charge as per the mode you have selected in the battery meter.
Sorry for not starting my own thread but there is very little on this board I thought it would be ok to interject this once since it appears you've done some homework on ths Longevity Mode issue.
A week ago my sister started getting a message suggesting she enable Longevity Mode on her new Vostro 3560 (Windows 7) because she was moving back and forth from battery to ac (with battery installed). Checking her BIOS I see the second last one enabled the LM feature but states you need a supported battery for the LM mode to work.
Questions:
Is there a way to ascertain that she has a supported battery installed ?
Will your suggestion to the original poster lock you out of future battery option settings ?
Any BIOS settings related to LM that require editing ?
Lastly, any wiki (or suggested reading) forthcoming about this new technology ?
The battery operating time is largely determined by the number of times it is charged. After hundreds of charge and discharge cycles, batteries lose some charge capacity (battery health). That is, a battery can show a charged status but maintain a reduced charge capacity.
In case you disconnect and connect the Ac adapter very often this option will only avoid charging the battery every time the system is connected to the Ac adapter. This option controls the way battery gets charged, thus giving good life to the battery.
Unfortunately, I am unable to provide you a link for more information on longevity mode in batteries.
From your first reply, it wasn't really exactly answered my question. But your 2nd reply (to maxd) seems to be something I am looking for.
However, from you said to click "Charge battery to 100% one time" form you 1st reply, actually, I did click on it. My laytop seemed to charge battery normally until it go to 100% full charge.
The problem is, from you 2nd reply, you said
"In case you disconnect and connect the Ac adapter very often this option will only avoid charging the battery every time the system is connected to the Ac adapter. This option controls the way battery gets charged, thus giving good life to the battery."
If you go back to my original question, you will be able to find my real problem. Because, it always charges the battery every times and always charge to 100% full.
I don't really care much about the longevity mode because I think desktop mode suits my usage the most.
Please let me know the answer, Thank you very much in advance.
maxd here.I guess she thought she was done with you/answered your question. Apparently not. I'm not sure but the answer to your problem may involve updating your BIOS. Please don't do that. And least not until you hear from someone who understands the problem and has a precise answer to it.
Let me re-phrase what Sujatha said:
"In the case of a person, who disconnects and connects their laptop to ac power a lot (maxd:as I stated my sister does), selecting Desktop Mode will prevent the problem both you and my sister are facing, specifically, the constant charging to 100 %."
In her case her system gave her a 'suggestion' message, ie to select Longevity Mode; she has the BIOS that triggers that message. If I'm correct the BIOS you're currently using doesn't have that ability. I'll say again, Don't update BIOS at this point. Let some time go by and let's see what can be found out about these modes. In case you didn't know, updating the BIOS, if the procedure goes wrong, can literally destroy your convertible.
I need some more information with regards to this. Please let me know the options selected in the battery meter. If possible please provide the screen shot of the same. In case you have changed any settings, let me know what setting where changed. Also provide the BIOS version of the system. To know the BIOS version on the system, press ‘Windows key + R’ and type ‘msinfo32.exe’ and hit enter. This will open msinfo32 screen where the BIOS version is listed.
Please check the battery status by pressing the battery status button on the system.
Please reply with the information to assist you further.
I am working with the engineering team with regard to this issue. I will keep you posted once I get an update. Meanwhile please private message the system service tag.
I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request by clicking on my name highlighted in blue and then click on “Friends” tab at the top and then click on “Request to Review” and finally click on “Accept” button.
I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide system’s Service Tag and contact details so I may access your system records and check for further course of action. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.
I would appreciate it if you could pass along anything you learn that fixes your problem; when they take the problem private anybody who's following the thread (like me) doesn't benefit. Appreciate it.
btw, don't know where I came up with Marcin-must have carried it over from another thread. maxd

Hi knottano,
Please provide the full image in the actual size as most of it is not clear when we zoom it.

If you click on the image, it shows the ordinal size at the very bottom of the page. But if you still can't see it, I can upload again.

I haven't got the answer and this issue has not been solved yet.
I'll let you know when it's done.
by the way, I have been trying to find the information about the battery issue on my own too. no luck so far.
