Once you do a manual install, the restore option is gone.  You can still use it -- boot a  Windows DVD and follow through the steps linked below:

smsoftdev-solutions.blogspot.com/.../how-to-restore-dell-factory-image-when.html

Assuming you haven't deleted the restore partition, that will work.

This looks like it could work, the restore partition hasn't been deleted, however, it doesn't have a drive letter assigned to it and every time I assign it a letter in Disk Management, it forgets it when I restart the computer.

Is the factory.wim file visible?

Ok, I assigned a driver letter to my recovery partition and made it active and visible etc with diskpart. However, the instructions in the blog above don't seem to be working for me. I get to the cd tools command line and it says the system couldn't find the file?

All that I can see when I open the drive is a folder called Recovery and a XML Document called ADRInfos. When I open the recovery folder it just comes up with a warning from Dell telling me to not delete any files etc.
