I have a similiar problem. My USB hub on this monitor seems to work intermittingly. The ports will work when I first turn on the monitor and computer but if the monitor gets shut off or goes into sleep mode the ports stop working and don't start working even after I turn it back on or wake it up. If anyone has any information on how to fix this problem I would appreciate it.

Glad to see someone else is having this problem.

I have just finished 15 rounds of fruitless go-around with Dells email support.  One of things they told me to do at least 3 times was to deactivate the USB error reporting and keep going.  But if you want USB2 performance, don't do it.  That message is very key to knowing whether you have USB2 performance or not.

I finally got tired of going in circles with them and did some testing of my own (using an external hard drive with a USB interface).  Here is what I have concluded.

I get the NON-HI Speed device connected to HI SPEED HUB error most of the time (more than 75% of the time) if I power on my second 1901FP monitor (or my primary monitor for that matter) after the computer is booted up.  If I get the message, testing shows the USB transfer rate (using the monitors USB ports) is around 10 to 20 times slower (i.e. USB1 performance).  If I don't get the message, then the performance is fast (USB2 performance).  So if you need USB2 performance, the error message is a very valuable one.  For example, don't go through a 1 hour video transfer to your PC using USB only to find that most of the video frames were dropped!!!  Shame on the monitor for doing that!

By the way, you don't need anything at all plugged into the 1901FP USB ports in order to get that error, only the connection to the computer.

However, if I unplug the USB cable from the monitor and hot plug it back in (while the monitor is powered up) I never get that error message and performance is fine.  That is my workaround until DELL sees fit to fix what is a possible design flaw in the USB hub in the monitor.  Also if I power up the monitor before I power up my computer, I have not seen the error.

Hope that helps.

FYI, DELL, if you read this.  The DELL 1901FP monitor USB connection is the only one of many USBs that I have that has ever given me this message on powering up the USB attached device.  HP, Epson, Sony, Canon devices do not ever have this problem.  Please consider changing the monitors power up sequence or provide some other device drivers to fix this.  This is a genuine issue to someone who needs power PC performance.

You are lucky to get it working at USB 1.0 speed.  I got my Dimension 8400 with 1704FPT monitor today and I can't even get the USB mouse that came with my system to work using the USB ports at the back of the LCD monitor.  Turning the monitor off and on just made XP USB manager to popup an error message.  Opening up the USB section in the Device Manager shows an Unknown USB Device so the USB hub in the monitor thing is obviously not being recognized.

Dang.  Hopefully, there will be a new monitor driver soon.
