Audio CD's, I used the CD's on my other Laptop and they work fine. I have tried several things to fix it. I looked for drivers but it didn't find anything, I ran a full Diagnostic but it said everything was fine.

Hi WeeHez90,

You may try to play the CDs in a different media player.

You may create another user account and check if the CDs work in new user account. Please refer to the link: http://bit.ly/VNSBTb

Please reply with the findings. I would be glad to assist further.

It won't work on another media player because the CD will NOT load at all, the green light continuously flashes and it makes and odd sound similar to morse code.

Creating a new account didn't help sadly.

Hi WeeHez90,

It seems the issue is with the operating system. However, you may update the firmware for optical drive.

Please check and share the model for optical drive from the device manager to provide you with the correct firmware for the system. you may follow the steps below:

  • Press ‘Windows’ key + R on ‘Desktop’ screen
  • Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ in run box and press ‘Enter’
  • Click > sign next to ‘DVD/CD ROM drive’ and check for the model.

Keep me posted with the information. I will be glad to assist further.

Nope that didn't work either, I'm starting to think this is a hardware problem, but what doesn't make sense is SOME music CD's work while others don't.

Hi WeeHez90,

I would suggest you to run hardware diagnostics on the system for hardware functionality, by following the steps below:

  • Reboot and press F12 to enter the Boot Menu
  • When the boot device list appears, highlight Diagnostics and press Enter
  • The computer begins to run the Pre-boot System Assessment, a series of embedded diagnostics that perform initial testing on your system board, keyboard, hard drive, and display
  • In case any hardware component is bad, you will get a corresponding error

You may also run ‘Custom Test’ on optical drive. Please follow the steps below:

  • Once Pre-boot System Assessment is over choose ‘No’ for remaining memory tests.
  • Press the to highlight Test System Press to continue to 32-bit Diagnostics.
  • Choose ‘Custom Test’
  • Choose CD/DVD drive from the left side and click ‘Run Test’

Keep me posted with the results. I will be glad to assist further.

Hi WeeHez90,

As the hardware diagnostics passed including the ‘Custom Test’ on optical drive, It seems that the system’s hardware is working fine and the issue is with the operating system. You may restore the system back to factory settings.

* Note: This step leads to complete data loss including pictures, music files, videos, documents and applications. Please disconnect any external peripherals as well.

You may backup the data on the system before the restore. To restore the system back to factory settings, please refer to the link: http://dell.to/10O20z6

Hope this helps. Keep me posted with the findings.
