didn't work. I even installed my i5-2520 from my asus laptop, doing the same thing.....here's something odd, I installed an extra Celeron b800 that I have and it works fine with it, updated drivers and everything.
Thank you for the response; I appreciate your technical expertise. I have never seen this kind of behavior. A little odd that it could be related to the processor. I would need more information in order to get to the root cause of the issue.
Does the system shuts down or goes to blank screen? May I know the operating system.
Thank you for the response. Since the issue persists, it is advisable to perform PC restore, which means taking the computer back to factory defaults to eradicate any software issues.
Note: This step leads to complete data loss including pictures, music files, videos, documents and applications. Please disconnect any external peripherals as well.
To perform PC restore:
Restart PC, press 3-4 times when the Dell logo appears.
Advanced Boot Options menu appears, ‘Repair your Computer' is highlighted, press Enter. (Use the arrow keys to highlight your choice)
Windows is loading files screen appears. Wait for it to load.
System Recovery Options prompt appears. Specify the language and keyboard input that you want, and then click ‘Next’.
Log in as a user who has administrative credentials; select the username from the drop-down list, type the password and click OK.
Choose a Recovery Tool Window appears, select Dell Data Safe Restore and Emergency Backup.
The Welcome screen will show 2 options; Restore computer and preserve my new or changed files and Select other System Backup and more options. Select the second option (Select other System Backup and more options) and click Next.
The next window shows these options; Backup Files and folders and Restore my computer. Select ‘Restore my computer’.
Select the Factory Image and click ‘Next’.
The next window shows 2 options; 'Preserve new or changed files before restoring to selected System Backup' and 'Restore without preserving new or changed files'. Select the second option (Restore without preserving new or changed files) and click Next.
A prompt appears stating that your computer is about to be restored all data currently on your computer will be deleted and replaced with your selected Full System Backup. If an Emergency File & Folder Backup was created, it will still be saved at the location you selected. Click 'Yes, continue' and click Next.
PC restore will initiate. Once done, click Restart.
Follow the onscreen instructions to create a user account
tried that a few times, didn't work. replaced the hard drive with a new one, did a fresh install of dell windows 7 home premium 64bit, installed dell system software then chipset software, rebooted, everything works fine....installed the video driver, rebooted, it gets to the windows logo for a few seconds and then it shuts off....back to square one. tried it with dells drivers, windows update drivers and intel's drivers.
Thank you for the response. Usually this issue is caused due to a possible faulty motherboard. However, in your previous posts, you have mentioned that the system works with Celeron b800 CPU. you might want to consider replacing it and check.

not happening....month and a half after the warranty expires the board screws up? I'm done with Dell. that's why I am on an Asus laptop right now, rock solid reliability. I think it's time to stop recommending Dell's to my customers and start referring to them as "worthless as an Acer or a Toshiba".
Apologies about the experience. I understand it could be upsetting.
Would like to know if you've updated the BIOS of the computer. The latest version available for this system is A13. If not, I would suggest you to update the BIOS from the following link http://dell.to/15rnUWG.
Note: Before updating BIOS please ensure that: *Battery is 10%> or >10% charged. *Battery charger should be connected. *No external devices (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) should be connected. *All other programs should be closed and documents saved.
If the issue persists, please boot the system into Safe Mode and perform a clean boot. Then restart the computer in Normal mode and check if you face the same issue. Please refer to the link http://bit.ly/12PfxI.
I am having the same exact problem with a customer's N7110. There seems to be an issue with the graphics driver (Intel HD3000) or something else not liking the graphics driver. I have run several diagnostics and everything passes. I can run in safe mode with no problems. I can run in normal mode with no issues after uninstalling the intel graphics driver. As soon as I install the graphics driver the laptop starts shutting down intermittently. No blue screen, it just shuts down immediately without warning. I guess my next step is to do a full system restore from the restore partition, install all updates and see if that solves it.
I have exactly the same issue with my N7110. When I remove the HD3000 driver and use the standard VGA driver with windows 7 the laptop boots. When I install a new or old HD3000 driver I cannot reboot!
Is this a driver issue or can this be hardware related.
Laptop has gotten a new motherboard under warranty 10 months ago en warranty is expired now.
We have 2 Dell laptops and both had repairs under warranty. It will be the last Dell laptops I ever own!
same machine, I5, same driver, same problem. if I connect an external monitor, the problem mostly goes away. however, that turns this laptop into a desktop. and it still crashes instantly but less often. i cannot believe this problem has not been resolved. seems machine should be put on a teststand to monitor the root cause of failure. unfortunately, i don't have one of those.
SAME EXACT PROBLEM! Same machine. My husband determined it is a video driver issue and older versions of the driver do not work. Machine works on low resolution. The machine was also only a couple months out of warranty and bam! No more Dell. This is a known issue so why aren't they fixing it. I am not spending a few hundred on another motherboard.

Hi lordbobrules,
Would like to know if the system shuts down or goes to blank screen.
May I know the operating system.
You may try the following steps and see if it makes any difference. The following steps are given your system has Windows 7 operating system.
Boot the system into Safe Mode:
When Windows finishes loading in Safe mode, open Device Manager and uninstall the video driver.
Please reply with the findings.
