Please notice that most reliable way (and the only one Dell excepts and can't argue with) is to make a test via built-in diagnostic tool which Dell u3014 has:
Excellent! Thanks again for your input. It's good to hear there are panels which do not show the scan line issue. I probably just received the "bad" batch from March 2013 A01. Enjoy the monitor, I know I did while I had it. The scan lines were just too distracting for me while I did photo editing so I returned mine. I guess I'll be contacting Dell again to buy another.
@thebarnman. Thanks for taking the time to test out your monitor and giving us the revision and manufacture date. You may be one of the lucky ones as I have went through two exchanges for horizontal lines and both monitors were March 2013 rev A01 as well. Can I trouble you with one more test to confirm? The following is the test image from another user. If you click on the photo then click on the magnifying glass at the bottom right of the photo you can access the hi res "original" version. You can probably make an assessment of the horizontal lines directly from the browser window or you can save that image and open it in picture viewer in full screen. Compare the bottom left corner to the upper right corner to see if you see horizontal lines running through the images. Please let me know what your findings are. Thanks in advance!
It's strange, I actually did not experience the color uniformity issues with my monitors at least nothing that was too noticeable. Both monitors did show non uniform brightness in the corners but I blamed that on IPS glow and the viewing angle/distance. If I view the monitor from farther away, the brightness was more uniform. I guess they haven't ironed out all the kinks yet. So either you have scan lines or uniformity issues, pick your poison. These shouldn't be things a consumer should have to live with when buying a "premium" monitor. I may just wait a little longer or look at other manufacturers and stick to my old 23".
I'll be sending mine back for a full refund because of the color uniformity and brightness uniformity issue. And, for the fact that the i1 Display Pro does not work well with the new type of back lighting from this monitor (U3014.) It confuses the i1 Display Pro because it's a colorimeter, not a spectrometer. A Spectrometer would compensate for the G-B LED array that has different wavelengths than most monitors and create a very good profile for the U3014.
Even if I were to get perfect color from this unit, there would still be a color and brightness uniformity issues.
I hope your next replacement is without the scan line issue!
There's not much that can be done about the brightness in the corner issues while displaying a mostly dark or black image. However I would hope something can be done about the differences in color across the screen.
For many, bluish whites simply look "brighter" then other areas that may be a tiny bit yellow. I can see the colors, however most people I think usually see the blue area as simply being lighter than the other side.
Then of course with edge lighting, there's simply areas of darkness around the edges.
I'm simply looking for more uniformity when spending this kind of money.
What have you guys done about the colors having a slight yellow tint? I did not see lines on my march 2013 rev01 monitor.
My main issue is that the colors do not look as good as my 23" (yellow tint) and then on the bottom right/left corners there is a large IPS glow during darker movies (think game of thrones .mkv and the dark battle scenes having a white glow on the corner).
The only way that makes it bearable is to change from movie mode to standard or custom space and change to srgb or adobe rgb. But then the colors still seem off. Any updates???
I set my monitor to sRGB. I would have liked it properly calibrated if I had the proper tools but it seemed like sRGB gave the most accurate colors without any tweaking.
As for the IPS glow on darker material, I find that viewing the monitor from farther away and tilting it upwards makes for a more uniform backlight. A monitor of this size will always have glow in the corners/sides when viewed up close since the angles of those corners to the eyes are less than 90 degrees.
I have an April 2013 Rev A01. Using miniport with NVidia GTX 670, i7 ASUS board.
No scan line issues, but a bunch of other ones:
First hardware calibration worked, 2nd and subsequent ones failed. Could not write to the display, complained about the USB connection. Tried several USB 3 and 2 connectors on the PC with not luck. Using the supplied DELL cable.
Can't get the display sleep/wake to work.
Menu buttons often fail to open the OSD, restarting display fixes for a couple of minutes. Since I run this as a 2nd display it sucks as all my work gets crammed over to the other display.
The image will sometimes just disappear and have to power cycle
The i1 doesn't produce as good of a software calibration as my old colorMunki Photo spectro which can't be used for hardware - not that I can now anyways :(
The color accuracy isn't great at 80-85 luminosity.
Much worse IPS glow in the bottom corners - very noticeable compared to my HP ZR30W which has almost none.
White scan lines/tearing occasionally. Jumpy scrolling/dragging (probably the video card).
I had such great hopes - thought it would outshine my HP :(
Here's the problem your talking about when it comes to calibration.
"i1DisplayPro. Being a colorimeter and not a spectrometer, the i1DisplayPro is very good at reading levels of light but can be confused by irregular wavelengths of light. Since the U3014 uses a brand new G-B LED array that has different wavelengths than most monitors, that means the i1DisplayPro is likely to interpret data from it incorrectly unless it has a custom response table built for each individual meter. "
This is sad because it was the calibrator recommended by Dell for use with this monitor.
I got a 3014 around April and sent it back, some of the problems being what you said. Are you using the displayport cable that came with the monitor? I was using a 3rd party displayport cable which seemed to work fine, except you had the poewr cycling issues and menu buttons not always working. Switching to the dell cable fixed these problems.
It did not fix the horizontal lines I could see appearing through everything, or the monitor refusing to sleep, or the monitor developing developing insomnia and waking up whilst the computer was asleep. That (and dead pixels) is why I sent it back, but they had the hide to charge me freight.

Oh, ok. I'll make a gray background in Photoshop and give it a try. I'll post my response shortly.

Please notice that most reliable way (and the only one Dell excepts and can't argue with) is to make a test via built-in diagnostic tool which Dell u3014 has:
en.community.dell.com/.../20335547.aspx
Look carefully for H-lines on lower left corner on GRAY background in Dell u3014 built-in diagnostic tool and let community know your results.

Thanks I think it would be solved better in a future revision. The menu buttons are very slow to respond

I got a 3014 around April and sent it back, some of the problems being what you said. Are you using the displayport cable that came with the monitor?
