That is a great idea, I haven't thought of that. I have to wait and see as its behaving itself right now.

Check with an external monitor - does it do the same or show a good image when the internal one shows this fault?

Ok so it happened again and I plugged in a screen via the hdmi. The problem instantly corrected itself, both on the laptop and screen once the two synced. I did this twice with the same results.

Hi Beatman,

You may follow the steps below to test the display :

  • Power off the system
  • Press and hold D button on keyboard and press the power button
  • You will see different colors on the screen
  • Check for any abnormalities and share them here

You may also try running hardware diagnostics on system by following the steps below :

  • Power on the system and press F12 button when you see Dell logo
  • Highlight Diagnostics option in boot menu and press enter
  • Let the diagnostics run and observe the display for any abnormalities

Please share the diagnostics results here. Will take it further form there.

I'm facing exactly same issue.

The pictures attached to this thread shows exactly what is happening and how the screen looks like then i don't understand why we need to do diagnostic test. Anyway I did that test it came out as "No problems have been found with this system so far" with all green tick marks, which I expected. But still I see screen is not proper.

I rebooted multiple times and installed display drivers but there is no use.  In some other forum people said it could be heating issue.

I'm thinking may be this is defect with this model.

Dell, I want a solution for this problem.  If this keep happening then we will loose faith on dell products.

I got this resolved, I rang Dell as this laptop was still on warranty. They came out and replaced the whole screen assembly including the cover and connector cable.

So while I don't know what the exact issue was, this did solve the problem. Its a physical fault and not software.
