Thanks for the response. I did remove the battery today but do not have the knowledge to remove the memory or the hard drive. I reconnected the battery, no go. I ran the diagnostic test - all tests passed. Attempted to reboot, nothing. Please help!

I have the same problem and I really need a solution. I've only had the problem for about 2 weeks and I've had the same situation where it won't boot the first time then works the second, but just recently as I was playing a game my computer just crashed and won't boot up, turns on, but no boot up. Could it possibly be a problem with the pre-installed windows 8? I haven't seen the same problem on any forums with people that has windows 7. Is it a problem with the computer or simply the OS (Not to mention how awful the windows 8 GUI is anyways)?
See if you can get into the Dell diagnostics -- F12 at powerup. If you can, run an full system diagnostic, and then run an extended (NOT just a quick) hard drive diagnostic. Set aside a couple of hours for this - the test will take that long.
I have the same issue. Sent the laptop to Dell in November 2013 when was under warranty. They returned it stating there was nothing wrong with it. I have tried to boot up the laptop several times since and it got to the Windows OS twice. Today, I have a little time so thought I'd try it again. It won't boot past the Dell logo. Called Dell and they now want to charge me because it is out of warranty. I literally have a brand new laptop that I have never used. Thinking long and hard before I buy another Dell. Always had been happy with our Dell products but this laptop must be a lemon!!

Tried to get into the diagnostic mode but it won't go using the F12 key (pressed every one second at the Dell logo). The laptop shuts down again.
