Inspiron 8000 won't accept password after A 23 bios upgrade

Question

I have used a primary password for 2 years with A 17 bios.  Flashed to A23 without any problem.  At the password screen if I put in the CORRECT password the system shuts off immediately.   If I put in a garbage password or just hit enter, I get a wrong password message & a chance to reenter password.  But the correct password turns off the system immediately. I called Dell & they gave me a 'super' password which removed the primary password and system worked fine for two days without any password.  Then I put in my old primary password and  again, the system shuts down as soon as I enter it. I must protect my data from being stolen.  Any suggestions??

zpaul5, Try setting up a different BIOS password.

Ouch!   I thought your suggestion was going to work.   I made a new password and it worked - once.  After that, as soon as I entered the password the system turned off.  No error or wrong password message.  Just instant off.   Is there a problem with the A 23 bios??     Ron

zpaul5, Very strange issue! It seems like you need a new motherboard (to have the BIOS chip replaced).

I would try a factory reset while in the BIOS - F9 or Alt+F, I forget.
