Cannot boot Ubuntu install DVD in UEFI mode (Inspiron 15R Performance - 5521)

Posté en anglaise, mais n'hésitez pas à répondre en français ;-). ----------------------------------------------- Hi all, I have a problem, I recently acquired a Dell Inspiron 15R Performance (5521), with Windows 8 pré-installed in EFI. I want to make a dual boot with Ubuntu (try with 12.10 and 13.04 -> Secure remix). But I can't found how to boot on the DVD in EFI mode... (truc rom)I have look on the Boot options on pressing F2 when my laptop boot. I have found the 'Load Legacy Option Rom', when I enable it, I found the DVD player in boot options (F12), but it's in Legacy mode section, not EFI... When I boot on this mode, I can install ubuntu, but I can't make the dual boot... Even using Easy BCD 2.2 (like this tutorial : http://adrienb.fr/blog/2012/11/09/dual-boot-windows-8-ubuntu-1210/ I have read this post : http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19472252.aspx, that concil to upgrade the BIOS in A11 version. I have try with A11 and A12, but the wizard tell me that my OS is uncompatible. Then, I've upgrade my bios from A05 to A07 found here : http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/fr/fr/19/Product/inspiron-15r-5521, no better... Can you help please, how can I get the boot options on the DVD in UFI mode ? ----------------------------------------------- Posté en anglaise, mais n'hésitez pas à répondre en français ;-).

Solved by disabeling Secure boot, and Intel Fast Boot.

Hi Greg71, 'Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS' can be installed on 'Inspiron 5521/15' laptop and Dell recommends 'Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS'. Software support is provided by the community and Canonical. Hello, okay I'll try it. But on Ubuntu Download page : www.ubuntu.com/.../desktop, I see 'Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS' (not 12.04.1). It's good with this version ?

And I precise, the problem it's not the Ubuntu install, but it's make a clean UEFI install of Ubuntu (by booting on the install DVD in UEFI mode) to make a clean dual boot.

Yes, I've tried with the version 12.04, 13.04 (www.ubuntu.com/.../desktop), and 13.04 secure, and both boot on purple screen, not on grub black screen (discribe here doc.ubuntu-fr.org/uefi).

Hi zohaib,

i installed ubuntu 12.04 64-bit wit 50gb and 8gb swap. now i had 450gb in C 50gb in F n 500gb in S(ignore drive alphabets). the problem is boot menu option is not coming for dual boot. if secure boot off ubuntu is getting boot if turned OFF win8 getting boot. where i made mistake. if any quries ask me here.
