Hi zbsmith19,
I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if you face same issue with the computer.
1. Switch off the computer.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
3. Remove the battery from the computer.
4. Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
5. Then connect back all the peripherals and check if you are able to turn on the system.
Also, I would suggest you to connect an external monitor and check if the desktop is coming up.
If you are able to see the desktop on external monitor, then flash the latest BIOS on the system using the link below and check for issue resolution.

Please let me know if this helps.

get to windows by safe mode ( f8 ) and tell us if the problem persist or not
Yes it still persists
Thank you for your reply however this did not help at all :( whenever I click anything even the desktop it just takes me right back to where my computer is locked and I have to re sign into it with my Microsoft password

Is there no fix? Should I just return it? This computer is only three to five days old and I've barely even gotten to use it

Yes, you should exchange it for a working system - there is no point in repairing a brand-new system. Have Dell replace it.
ok try the follwing
- start your laptop with battery only
- also start it with adapter only
is there any changes
---------------
if the issue persists maybe the problem of RAM, try others
