After the computer passed all diagnostic tests, I started the laptop in safe mode with networking. It seems to work just fine in that mode. The internet works, and the screen has yet to return to gibberish. I'm not sure what is happening, but I'll shut the laptop down and try to restart normally. Maybe it has fixed itself? I still have not replaced the battery, but I did do the draining of the reserve charge by holding the power button down for 20 seconds. I will post the result in a few minutes.
Thank you for your quick response. It's taking me a while to respond to you because the computer I described with the problem is my only computer. With my computer not working, I'm having to respond from my phone's web browser. Please bear with me, as typing on my phone is time-consuming and frustrating.
I took the battery out of the laptop and plugged in the AC adaptor. Without replacing the battery, I ran the F12 diagnostic test. I get the following pop-up error message:
Error code: 2000-0131
Validation 65199
Msg: The battery is not installed
There was a 1-3-1 beep code (it did a melodic beep, followed by 1 beep, pause, 3 beeps, pause, 1 beep. Then it repeated on a loop). After pressing OK, it launched the ePSA Pre-boot System Assessment. The results are as follows:
System (green check)
Cables (green check)
OS Boot Path (green check)
Hard Drive 0 (green check)
CDROM Drive 0 (green check)
Video Card (green check)
Notebook Panel (green check)
Notebook Panel (green check)
Processor Fan (green check)
System Management (green check)
Processor (green check)
Memory (green check)
I did a "Thorough Test Mode" check, and did the full memory/hard drive check when given the option.
The test took at least 2 hours or more to run, and the screen never went to gibberish like in the video I referenced in my first post while it ran. The hard drive was the device that took the longest to check.
But, everything passed. It says "Pass PSA V4213 ePSA extended test pass"
Thank you for sharing the results. The error code that appeared during the diagnostics was regarding the battery as it was not connected when tests were being performed.
Also, if the system is performing normally in Safe Mode, it appears to be a issue with Windows, software or any driver causing the conflict. Please share if you have made any software or hardware changes to the system before the issue started occurring, this will help me isolate the issue further. Please reply with the information, I'll be happy to help.
After starting it in safe mode, without the battery in place, I shut the computer down. I then replaced the battery (after completing the drain of the residual charge), plugged in the AC adapter, and the computer started up normally.
However, I cannot get the machine to recognize the battery. The battery charging light does not come on either. I went to power settings, and it shows that the battery is fully charged. However, when I open the Dell battery meter, it says that battery charging is disabled. Under the battery health tab, it says that my battery is performing normally.
How do I get my computer to recognize the battery? It runs just fine otherwise, no more beeping, no more screen gibberish. But I'm afraid that if it gets accidentally unplugged, it will just shut off, losing my work. I have never had a battery problem before this, and this is the original battery that came with the computer.
I navigated to the Dell Battery Meter under the Power Options in the Control Panel. There are two tabs-- Battery Status and Battery Health. Neither tab has a box to check to Disable battery charging.
Under the Battery Status tab, it tells me the battery capacity is at 100%, and under the Battery Health tab, it tells me that my battery is performing normally. The only option under Battery Health is to order a battery online now. Under the Battery Status tab, I have a check box to turn off battery charging (until next reboot), and a check box to enable Dell Extended Battery Life.
I do not see an option to Disable Battery Charging, like in the picture you attached.
Please enable the option 'Turn off battery charging' and restart the system. Disable this option after restart and check if it makes any difference. If the issue still persists, you might consider replacing system's battery. Before replacing try an alternate good known battery and check if it gets recognized.
Dell inspiron n4110 black screen comes up after it starts like normal however instead of showing the login users shows black screen with mouse arrow dis those steps and still same thing no errors everything passed test now i also have family pics i dont wish to lose please help

Hi msjenlynne,
Please run diagnostics to confirm hardware functionality. Here are the steps:
Also, try draining the residual charge from the system and check if that makes any difference. Here are the steps:
Try booting the system to Safe Mode, and check if it functions properly there or not. Here are the steps:
Please reply with the information. I'll be happy to assist further.

Hi msjenlynne,
Please open Dell Battery Health Meter and navigate to the Battery Life tab. Make sure that Disable battery charging is unchecked.
Hope this helps. Please reply with the results.
