Hi Amit,

Does the screen flicker in BIOS? Restart the computer and tap F2 on Dell logo and check if the screen flickers.

Check if the same happens in safe mode with networking. Restart the computer and tap F8 on Dell logo. Select Safe mode with networking.

Disconnect the adapter and check if the flickering happens when the computer works on battery.

Connect an external monitor and check the status.

I recommend running diagnostics on LCD (restart the computer by holding D and Power button simultaneously).

Awaiting your response!

Hi Rajesh,

What I observed today is when I connect this laptop with adapter, it does not flicker otherwise it flickers.

I do not have any external monitor to connect it.

I have windows 8 installed in it.

Hi Amit,

Reset the Power settings to default and check the status.

Please follow the below steps to reset Power settings to default:

To start with, click on the battery icon visible on the taskbar of your Windows 8 computer screen and choose ‘More power options’.

The ‘More Power Options’ screen opens and from there you can select from the three predefined plans – Balanced, Power saver, or High performance, and change their plan settings by clicking on the ‘Change Plan Settings’ link. The last one i.e. High performance plan option remains hidden. You need to click on the drop-down arrow adjacent to ‘show additional plans’ to access it.

Now click restore default settings for this plan.

Awaiting your response!

Hi mivkovic1,

Connect an external monitor and check if the issue persists?

Also, check in Safemode with networking. Restart the computer and tap at Dell logo and select Safemode with networking.

Run diagnostics on the computer LCD:

Let me know the status.

Hi Dell-Rajesh.

I ve done all those tasks and result is:

- when it runs on external lcd it flickers, but only at laptop lcd, not on lcd tv (duplicate image)

- when booting in safe mode with network, it doesnt flicks

- diagnostics - all passed tests, didnt bother with additional 30 min memory tests

I ve done one more thing and it looks like problem is in Dell extended battery life. When its on screen flicks without battery, when I turn it off everything is normal...

Checking the first two possibilities would’ve been too time consuming without a real result. And it’s kind of unlikely that the battery and/or graphics card broke just as I installed Windows 8. And the fact that it only happens when on battery is also a good hint, as this indicated that it could be something with the power saving settings (spoiler: it was).

here is the solution:
