It is physically impossible for your display panel to show that resolution - as above, you may have though it did, but it does not - and never could have.

Hello Kevin Dimmock,

In order to assist you, please help me understand if you are referring to the screen resolution of the laptop LCD or any external monitor. I would also like to say, in case the warranty of the computer has already expired, it cannot be renewed. You can check the warranty status here (Enter the service tag, click submit and check for the warranty status).

Awaiting your response!

Hello Allen,

This is for the built in screen on my laptop, not an external monitor or television. Also I have checked the warranty and I would have to purchase the "expired contract renewal fee" and also the "one year return to depot". I am hoping to be able to resolve this issue without having to send the laptop back in. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Thank you,

Kevin

Open the device manager in the control panel.  Is anything missing a driver?

Nope. All devices are there, listed, and up to date.

Go to support.dell.com and use the service tag to look up the "Original Configuration".  What is the part number listed for the LCD panel?

Others have listed similar problems, the part listed is for the non-HD lcd screen. But when I purchased it the computer came with the trueHD screen. Before the reinstall I was able to go to 1920x1080.

There is no way a screen can suddenly lose resolution -- it's physically impossible.  You just do not have the screen you thought you did.

You are correct, there is no way it would lose resolution. That is the reason I am looking for help and insight on the forums, I am looking for some possible reason (config file, bios, driver) that would cause my computer to be displaying at 1600x900. I will not believe the last year and a half of having a resolution of 1080 was in my head.
