Hi kristy_kurd,

I am sorry about the situation; The 7 beep code indicates that there is a processor/motherboard failure. Try releasing the static power and check the system is working. Follow the steps below.

Switch off the system; remove the battery, ac adapter and the power cable. Press and hold down the power button for thirty seconds to drain any excess static power. in case the issue persists, Please send me the system service tag or express service code through this private chat, I will see what best can be done.

Click on my username select start a private conversation and send me the details.

Please refer to the link below where to locate the service tag or express service code.

I just had the same thing happen to my computer. I had a windows update and had restarted it yesterday. Used my computer once, placed it in suspend mode and just went to turn it on, it now beeps 7 times, pauses for 10 seconds and does it again. It appears that I am not the only one. Perhaps this windows update caused an unrecoverable issue? I cant afford a new computer.

Thank you for your assistance.

Darcy- I was able to talk to a customer service rep online and they ended up having me send in my laptop and they replaced the motherboard and a couple of other things for free. I did lose everything that was on my laptop such as pictures, videos and any software that I had downloaded but I was able to have the computer fixed free of charge. Try speaking to someone-I was very impressed with the help that I received. Good luck! Kristy

I don't believe that Dell fixed your computer for free. I called with the same issue. The tech told me it is very uncommon and that they can fix it for about the price of a new laptop. I think I will buy a new laptop but it won't be a Dell! They <ADMIN NOTE: Profanity removed as per TOU> and do not support a common defect. With many other computers I own, not one has had this happen. I just need to figure out how to transfer my pics and data to the new laptop.

I faced the same issue. Installed windows auto update patch, and since morning I am not able to boot. Though it worked for few hours after windows update and I could work. Not sure if it's patch issue.

i already tried releasing static the way it's mentioned. This is so frustrating.

I have Dell Inspiron M5010 of around 3 years old. It just sounds beep on trying boot up.

i believe there are going to be heck of users going to suffer with this issue.

The 5010 suffers the same problems as the 5030. The "fix" is absurd (read on). The REAL fix is for Dell to admit fault, and fix no charge (keep reading).

I own the Dell Inspirion 5030.  For those of you not familiar with this unit, Google "Dell 5030 7 beeps". Read for 10 minutes some of the 1000's of complaints regarding this unit.  It will soon be apparent to you that Dell collected the cheapest parts that they could find, put them in a "pretty" case, and then laughed all the way to the bank.

Aware of the numerous problems with this "computer", they are happy to fix for $330.00. With a little "discussion", they are quick to reduce the price to $179.00.

This unit NEVER should have been sold to the public.  The temporary fix for many of the problems is to wrap it in a blanket at start up for 15 minutes. HOW INSANE IS THAT?  Dell needs to take responsibility for the products that it sells!

Total 2013 compensation for Michael Dell, CEO Dell Inc., was $13,896,912.  I feel totally justified in asking, actually DEMANDING, that his corporation either fix or replace the thousands of defective M5030's that were sold over the past 3 years.

Wow, with 7 beeps another M5010 announced its demise. Out of warranty of course, and Dell can fix it for $179 or $318 if the mb needs replacement. The tech told me the systems are very reliable and this seldom happens. He obviously hasn't looked at the posts in this forum or conducted any internet searches.

I have 5030 and it had same problem and now it's completely dead.

Tech Support "offered" me fix with £400 or completely new computer with same price.

I refused and said "I will never buy DELL laptop".

How can we file DELL as obviously there are so many sufferers around the world?

I decided to take a look at my M5030 once again and found these posts while looking for some info on the problem.    So what was the fault ?  Motherboard ?  Cpu ?   Unanticipated Heat transfer ?  it obviously is an engineering defect..  The same thing does not  occur over and over with this much consistency without there being some type of design consideration.   Look, if something walks like a duck ...especially when  it starts to quack ...  I certaintly wouldn't deny that it could be.  If  I was Dell corp. i think i would have rolled out the red carpet to my loyal customers.   How many of you bought Dell replacements ?????  i'll give Dell three days to respond and then my opinion alone will affect thousands of customers (We sell HP  and toshiba too) and what I recommend does matter to me.
