Hi Saharsh,

Thank you very much for your prompt response. The laptop runs Windows 8, what else do you need to know?

Thanks in advance.

Hi CA,

Thank you for the information. If your system was shipped with Windows 8 pre-installed from the factory, there should be a recovery partition present on your system. You can restore your computer to factory settings using the steps below:

Note: This step leads to complete data loss including pictures, music files, videos, documents and applications. Please disconnect any external peripherals as well.

  • Shut down the computer.
  • Power On the system.
  • Power Off the system at Dell Logo with “rolling dots” at the bottom of the screen.
  • Repeat the above steps 2-3 times.
  • Click ‘Troubleshoot’.

  • Click the Dell Backup and Recovery icon.

  • The system restarts and comes back up, click Next on the Dell Backup and Recovery Screen.

  • The system would be checked to see if the smart repair option can fix the issue, click Next once this is done.

  • You will be prompted to select the backup to be used, click the factory image option or select from one of the backups. Click Next.

  • You will be prompted to backup your files, if needed do so by selecting the option Yes, backup my personal files (Make sure to have an external backup hard drive handy.) or select No, Erase my files.

  • The system goes ahead and completes the restore of the operating system. Click Restart when prompted.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to setup the system with windows.

Hope this helps.

Aaargh! After powering on the laptop it does show Dell´s logo but NO ROLLING DOTS, it immediately shows the blue screen with the Recovery legends, then it switches off.

I tried powering off even without the rolling dots, to no avail...

What am I doing wrong?:emotion-9:

Hi CA,

I work from 10:30 PM till 7:30 AM US Central Standard Time. It appears that you will need to reinstall Windows using the re-installation discs. But before that I would recommend you to perform 'Diagnostics' to confirm hardware functionality. Here are the steps:

  • Restart the system and immediately start tapping the 'F12' key to enter the 'Boot Menu'.
  • Use the 'Down Arrow' key to highlight the 'Diagnostics' option. Press the 'Enter' key.
  • The diagnostics will begin. Please note the exact error message/code, if any appears on the screen.
  • You may also refer to the video on the link http://dell.to/17DCL0R  for more information.

As you have not received the re-installation discs along with the system, I request you to share the system's Service Tag, Owner's Name and your email address with me via private message (click my username and then click Start Conversation). I will review the details and share the further course of action with you.

Please reply with the information, I'll be happy to assist you further.

Hi Cristóbal,

I am replying on behalf of Dell-Saharsh K. I see that you have already contacted support over phone for the media cds and they will be shipped shortly. Please reply when you receive the discs and if you face any difficulties. Will take it further from there.

Hello Sundeep B;

Thanks for your interest and help regarding my case.

The OS installation disc arrived in my address this afternoon. Since we are in different time zones, will you guide in the installation process? or should I contact Dell support in my region?

Today, Tue 28, I will be online until around 2 am Wed 23, if you happen to read this, please let me know if you can help me.

Thanks

Cristóbal H A

You may refer to step by step instructions on manual re-install of Windows 8 Here. Once the OS is installed, you may install the drivers from Here -> Enter the service tag of your system ->  Select the operating system -> Download/install the drivers in correct order as given Here.
