You must set the contrast to 75 and the brightness to 75 which are the factory defaults. Dell monitors do not have 100% backlight uniformity specification. If this is unacceptable to you, contact the seller and return it for credit. We cannot credit you since you did not buy it from us.
Here are the pictures at default settings. I don't expect it to be uniform but it can clearly be seen in moderate light, at as low as 50 brightness (and lower to be truthful).
After a lot of research on this forum and others, the panel change in monitors after May 2013 greatly improved the exact issues I am having.
EDIT:
Is there a chance of getting a replacement? I really like this monitor but the level of backlight bleed in the bottom left corner is very distracting.
Its a bit odd that dell seems to be aware of the problem but won't replace these items.
I will however take your advice and will return the item.
If this is the acceptable level of backlight bleed for dell monitors I won't be buying another and will buy another brand with the hope that they will have stricter quality control.

Knowing the Dell policy, I cannot exchange this. My advice, return it to the reseller. Then buy new from us to get the latest revision.
