If you are comfortable editing the registry, add and/or set the value "LastCheck" to 0 (dword), under the key HKCU\Software\EnTech\DDM.

The displays team said that there will not be an option to disable the auto-update prompting. So the registry hack looks to be the workaround.

Thanks Chris, I've tested versions 1244, 1260, and 1285, and all will prompt at the next login to upgrade to the latest version (1315). Do you know of any setting or registry key to disable the prompt from being displayed?

Micah111,

According to this, you should be running ddmsetup1260.exe ? I cannot find ddmsetup1315.exe on our site.

Chris: I can't get DDM to properly run after installing from the Dell Download page (abut 12 times now). I get past the initial 1260 version which prompts for the 1315 version (which I get immediately from the Dell update site).

Here is what I wrote on another post reply ... hoping to find some workable solution:

Oh jeepers, now the Datacolor Spyder4Pro won't work either?  I am still struggling with trying to get the Dell Display Manager software to install and open properly. Love the June2013 Ultrasharp U2713H monitor but I have limited control over it without the DDM app.

Dell Tech support claims I have a faulty Win8 x64bit OS in the 3 month old Inspiron15R laptop, so I am facing a reinstall of the Win8Pro 64bit OS - if they are correct about what is causing the problem.

After installing one update from Publisher EnTech Taiwan, the desktop icon doesn't open anything. Sometimes I get error message 740 followed by a note that this must be elevated.

Anyone got any ideas about what to try? Thanks

I'm afraid a Windows error code 740 is just a symptom of an underlying problem, usually with UAC (User Access Control). Try right-clicking on DDM or one of the other programs that no longer run, and select "Run as administrator". If that does not help, you can try temporarily turning UAC off to confirm and see if these several problems are resolved. Before reinstalling the OS,  if it comes to that, you may want to try restoring Windows to a point before these problems started.

Thanks swamped207.  I tried the r-a-a approach with zero impact.  Can't see where to turn UAC off, but I did try running NOT as administrator.

Spent about 2 hours researching UAC, mostly on HowToGeek with no improvement.  Since the laptop is only three months old and I have just started trying to properly install DDM, I don't really know when 'a point' would be that is worthy of the effort to restore windows.

I am concluding that the UAC software is corrupted. Do you know if UAC alone can be reinstalled, or is the solution going to be reinstalling Win8Pro x64 OS in its' entirety?

I appreciate your time to review and respond. Cheers from Melbourne AU.

I'm afraid this has nothing to do with DDM, and while it might be possible to repair UAC, that would not address the underlying problem. Except for the diagnostic purpose I suggested, UAC should never be disabled unless your system is working properly to begin with.  If you can't roll back your system using System Restore to a workable state, then an OS reinstall may be advisable.

In my experience with the DDM most of the problems have been resolved by updating the video driver (I believe other posts on the forum will corroborate this). If you haven't already I recommend the below:

1. Run windows updates (you may need specific updates for your monitor model or the dell displayport cable)

2. Download and install the latest video driver from the manufacturer (just to make sure)

3. In windows 8 disable UAC by going to: Control Panel> System and Security > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy

4. Install the latest version of the DDM, do not check the run as admin box. Make sure the monitor is physically connected and the desktop extended or duplicated before install. (-I've just had better results this way...)

If you continue to get any errors I would email support@entechtaiwan.com with the error details and your OS/software/hardware details.

Thanks Micah111 you seem to be onto something (although the final working solution might just be the OS re-install).

I went thru all my drivers and they all seem to be updated/current for this 3 month old Dell Inspiron15R (build 7520) laptop. HOWEVER, I discovered these apps don't work besides the non-installing DDM app: Dell Update service; My Dell Support Center; and Catalyst Control Center. The last one prompted me to drill into the video driver related apps.

Sure enough, searching 'settings' for 'video' resulted in some choices, one of which was the Devices & Printers box. The top item had the triangle alert with an exclamation point inside. It was over the AMD Radeon HD 7730M Display Adaptor device (mind you both the laptop display and the 2nd display (U2713H) seem to work flawlessly less the DDM software for extra control settings).

Device Function Summary reported:

Manufacturer: Advanced Micro Devices

Location: PCI Bus 1, Device 0, Function 0

Device Status: Windows has STOPPED this device because it has reported problems (code 43).

Driver: current, 01Aug12, ver 8.982.6.0

Researching some of the options within the Devices&Printers box, I got to EVENT VIEWER

The results for the laptop itself had 3,482 administrative events since Dell assembled the laptop on 25May13 (it arrived at our place 05Jun13).

The results for the AMD Radeon HD 7730M had ZERO events. Does this mean it has never worked properly since the Dell assembly point?

There seemed to be no information on when the Window shut down event occurred, so I can't yet tell a date.

Do you have any thoughts or recommendations? Is this worth persuing with Dell Support on a phone call, or do you think reinstalling the OS is inevitable?

Thanks

Well there you have it - the new Windows8 Recovery Media for Windows8 Products 64-bit cd just rolled in the door from Dell Malaysia this morning.

Yes but...

After looking into it and getting the same response from Entech support, swamped207 is right about the 740 error likely being a UAC corruption issue. Unfortunately other than checking the registry entries specifically tied to UAC or using a reg cleaner there's not much in my opinion that you can realistically do to troubleshoot. On the other hand this diagnosis is by no means clear cut, especially if you're facing an undesired re-install of the OS, why not attempt any troubleshooting steps available (if you have the time or inclination)?

A few other comments:

I wouldn't worry about the Dell bloatware not working, if anything I would uninstall it.

In regard to the Graphics card and the event viewer I would just upgrade the driver to version 8.982.6.0 from dells driver download page for your device model.

In general I would recommend operating in a way that would always allow you to quickly and easily re-install your OS, i.e. maintaining OS install media/source files, maybe a second hard drive, automated/manual backup procedures etc. If you can/do get in the habit of this it will often save time and limit persistent or re-occurring problems.

"Just wipe it" isn't a bad motto, a cop out? Yes...maybe, but what do you wanna live forever?

Hi there. I am just about to purchase the Dell U2413. What is latest version of DDM that I should install, and where will I locate the download please? Is it 1244 or 1260? Thanks

I think we're using 1392 which should be fairly recent. Any version will work though as it will prompt to download the latest version.
