Thank you for the response. This seems to be an issue with the video card. Since the video card is embedded on the motherboard, then the entire motherboard might have to be replaced.
It might be an issue with the motherboard. However, to get to the root cause, I would like to know some details.
What is the status of the power button light? Is there a light on the AC Adapter? Does the system power without the AC Adapter plugged in? Does the system power on even for a very short duration with the AC Adapter plugged in?
Please check if the light on the AC Adapter remains on or goes off after it is connected to the computer.

Hello,
In answer to your questions:
What is the status of the power button light?
- when pressed it comes on and stays on
Is there a light on the AC Adapter?
- yes that lights up white when power is connected
Does the system power without the AC Adapter plugged in?
- yes it will power up off the battery and the ac power
Does the system power on even for a very short duration with the AC Adapter plugged in?
- the system powers on and stays on in that I can hear the fan running and what i think is the disk turning
Please check if the light on the AC Adapter remains on or goes off after it is connected to the computer.
- It stays on when it is connected to my computer. i also have a second power adaptor which does the same thing.
I have since my original posting removed and tested the hard disk and confirm that it runs ok.
Thanks
