Hi,

As I understand your systems LCD screen comesup with white bars intermittently. I would advise you to connect an external monitor to the computer and check the issue so that we can determine if it’s an issue with the LCD or motherboard.

Also, I’d suggest that you run the LCD BIST on your system to check if it’s a problem with the LCD screen. Please follow the steps mentioned below to run the “LCD BIST’.

  1. Turn of the computer.
  2. Press and hold down the ‘D’ key on the keyboard and press the Power button.
  3. You will see different colors on the LCD screen. Please check if the screen changes to different colors.

Please get back to us with the results.

Also, I see that you are looking for tablet with phone capabilities. Dell has launched New Dell Venue 8 which you might be interested in.

Hello,

This is me again; I had to create a different name because the site was telling me that I didn't have an account.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, I looked for the external monitor I used to have, and could not find it. I did try the second test, and the screen turns red, green, blue, white, and black, in that order. However, when I try to turn it on, it will not. It cycles through several screens, all of which are covered in different patterns of squares, blocks, rows, or columns of colors and/or digits & indecipherable words. Sometimes it will attempt to restore, sometimes it will just keep on cycling through some supposed attempt to boot up that endlessly fails. A few days ago it would occasionally turn on as if it had fixed itself, but then within some number of minutes or hours after you'd logged in, the screen would randomly become frozen and covered in colored squares, the likes of which you can see throughout the video--at which point you could no longer do anything, and it would shut off. So I'm still essentially stuck with the same problem shown in the video, and can't use it at all because it will not even bring up the log-in screen anymore.

The Venue 8 definitely looks of interest to me; thank you for that suggestion.

Hi,

I would suggest you to start the system up into the BIOS screen (F2 during startup) and remain there for half hour and check if the issue persists.

Thanks; I'll still give that a shot. According to my brother, it's kaput and needs to be replaced (which is kind of good in a way, since I have been wanting something lighter, easily portable...and this gives me the opportunity to transfer all my hard drive stuff onto something like that.)

Sadly, in my case the computer was irreparably broken and I had to get a new laptop. What happened was that quite a bit of my hair had somehow gotten inside of it and wrapped around the fan, choking it and preventing it from being able to cool the machine. Therefore the computer overheated and shut off scores of times, eventually damaging it beyond repair.
