Dell optiplex 9010 Windows 7, 32 to 64 bit OS migration for supporting more than 3GB RAM

Hello All,
I have Dell optiplex 9010 Desktop System with Windows 7 Professional 32 OS and 2 GB Onboard RAM.

I wanted to upgrade the Desktop so ordered 2 units of  8 GB DDR 3 RAM (1600 MHz).
After putting the RAM in empty Sockets OS was not able to detect the RAM,  the issue seems to be due to limitation of 32 bit OS.

Can i upgrade desktop to 64 bit OS using the same windows product key provided with machine. If yes how to get the OEM DVD for windows 7, 64 bit OS ?

Follow Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean Install of Windows 7:

http://philipyip.wordpress.com/dell-community-forums/

Use the Activation Backup and Recovery Utility to backup your product activation on your original install. Then clean install using a Windows 7 64 bit Professional .iso and skip input of your product key. Use the Activation Backup and Recovery Utility to restore your OEM product activation. The guide explains all these steps aswell as driver installation in more detail.

Did the system recognize the memory in the BIOS Setup (F2)?  If so, then yes, 32-bit operating systems can only use 4GB of RAM.  The "usable" amount will be less, as some of that is budgeted to manage hardware devices.

The Product Key is good for either 32-bit or 64-bit.

BIOS recognized RAM. I did clean installation with 64 bit OS. The product key was valid for both versions.

Thanks !!
