All-in-one Dell Printer Photo 924 - Cartridge issue

Hello,

I really hope someone can help me....

I have the above mentioned printer for a few years and it comes with a color and black/white cartridge.  Because I accidentally broke the cover of the color cartridge, I've been using the printer with only the black/white.  When I print, I get an error message 'cartridge is empty' but I ignore it and continue printing without problems. The ink on the page is very good and solid.

I had bought a replacement color cartridge a while back that if I remember correctly, was recommended by Dell, but it wasn't working and I have read that others had the same issue too. As I didn't really need the color cartridge, I didn't buy another one.

This morning, I tried printing but I got different messages.  It's more like 'the left cartridge is missing' and then 'the right cartridge is incorrect' and vice versa.  I turned off my laptop and started again, but the same message is there.  I thought maybe it's empty and got it refilled but still the same.

Can you please advise?  I really need the printer for work so any help would be appreciated!

Regards

Argyro,

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them.

Some generic cartridges work and some don't. It's possible the cartridge you purchased is not being read by the printer.

Argyro,

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. Plug everything back in. This will reset any error messages the printer has.

Power on the printer. Open the printer and take out the Dell Series 5 Black cartridge. make sure all the tape is off the cartridge and put the cartridge back in. Now do the same for the Dell Series 5 color cartridge.

Close the printer. It should print an alignment page. Any error messages?

Black cartridge = black side(left side)          color cartridge = color side(right side)

Photo cartridge = black side(left side)         color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

If these ink cartridges are new, then take them to the place of purchase for a refund or replacements. If they're old, then try purchasing a new Dell Series 5 ink cartridge.

Thanks for your prompt response!

I unplugged the printer and did as you said, but unfortuantely, I'm getting the same messages:  Left cartridge incorrect.  Color cartridge missing.  Why did this happend all of a sudden?

How do I know if what I have is Dell Series 5 ink?  Mine says Remanufactured Black Cartridge DL-4640.  Is remanufactured ok to purchase?

I have encountered this same problem with my 924.  Have 2 new ink jet cartridges bought from Dell installed.  Same error messages.  Pulled power cartridge as described above.  No change.

Am using Dell approved cartridges yet printer does not recognize them as valid.

Have no clue whats wrong or what to do next.

tpdlhc,

If they are Dell Series 5 ink cartridges, contact the place of purchase for a replacement.

You did unplug the printer from the wall and then remove the power brisk for 60 seconds to reset any error messages the printer is getting, correct?
