Can I use my 1gb ram from an inspiron 6400 in an inspiron 1545

Question

Hi I am wondering if they are compatible. BTW i currently have a 2gb stick in my laptop that came with it, i looked on crucial and they both use DDR2 PC2-5300. would using the 1gb stick and the 2gb stick make it slower or is it better to just leave it as it is with just a 2gb stick

Hi Chunyip,

You can add the additional 1GB memory to your Inspiron 1545 to increase RAM on your computer since both computers have the same SODIMM DDR-2 memory type. However, your system will operate at the speed of the slower memory module.

The maximum memory capacity on the Inspiron 1545 is 4GB.

Are you sure there's just one module in the newer system?  Most of these would have shipped with 2x1G. If there is an open slot, you can use the RAM from the older system.
