No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot

Question

I have this issue on my Inspiron 6400 for many years, since I bought, six years ago. Before I get this massage, I get this one:   After windows reboot and can't find bootable device I'm pressing F5 for the test and get this one: So, it's might be a problem, cause it's passing all the rest of the tests. It's caused with windows vista, XP, then with win7. I thought the problem is with hard drive, red on some forums, and every body talk about hard drive. So when my hard drive, I think, dead, I bought a new one SSD and thought I resolve a problem, but no, it's appeared after some hours again with new win 7 installation, and almost without  no software. Conclusion - there is no hard drive problem. Any thoughts and help will be appreciated cause it's make me mad (even if this is my back up comp). Thanks

Hello,

Please check in BIOS if the HDD is detected there. If it is detected then it could be an issue with the board and if not then it is issue with HDD. If the system is under warranty, a 200-0141 is a straight HDD replacement without further troubleshooting from dell. If the system boots by any chance, you can try updating the BIOS. Also this issue may occure if the HDD connection slot is lose or broken. So take a look at the slot where you connect teh HDD.

Thanks Vemmi! HDD is not a problem. I'm already change it to SSD and the problem is still there, so I'll follow your advise and check in BIOS... Thanks again!
