DELL Inspiron 1545 - HDD and DVD RW not detecting

Question

Hi Experts. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545. I have been using it for 4 years (with proper care). Suddenly it started restarting frequently (for a week). And now it is not booting from the HDD. I changed the booting sequence, with DVD RW as the first bootable device, and tried to boot the system using my original Windows VIsta OS CD that was provided to me when i bought the Laptop. But the system is not booting from the DVD RW also. When i insert the Windows CD and try to boot the system, the CD spins inside the DVD RW with a loud sound, but the system won't boot. I have run the diagnostic also. It says HDD and DVD RW not detecting.. (however in the BIOS setup i can see HDD and DVD RW, and am able to change their booting sequence) How can i fix this. I am afraid of giving my system to repair to a service center because i fear they may steal /misuse the very important and personal data that is present in the HDD. I am unable to afford a lot of money also, what should i do. Please help me. thanks and regards Raju

Hi Raju,

Welcome to the Community.

Instead of checking for drives under Boot Sequence, I would suggest you to check if the drivers are detected under System Information > Device Information in BIOS.

If drivers are detected properly, please reseat both the drivers using the manual given below:

Thanks Manshu, i saw the manual.

Please tell me what is "reseat". Is it just removing the HDD and DVD RW by unscrewing them, and putting them back, - or is it something more.

The Manual only talks about how to replace the various components.

Hi Raju,

Did you check if the drive is recognized under Device Information?

Yes, remove hard drive and optical drive and then connect them.
