I had the same problem. Talked to the Dell support today, and the rep asked me to update drivers. I updated the Intel Chipset driver and the Nvidia driver. After these updates I have not experienced this problem again :emotion-1: Hope this helps Your Laptop as well!

Thanks for this information.

However, as far as I can tell, the versions of the Intel and Nvidia display drivers installed on my laptop are later than those available from Dell's website:

Driver                   Date/version on Dell's website  Date/version on my laptop

Intel HD Graphics Family 9/25/2013 9.18.10.3186          01/10/2013 10.18.3316

Nvidia                   9/25/2013 9.18.13.1170          29/08/2013 9.18.13.2702

Would you mind reporting the versions of the drivers you installed following your conversation with Dell support?

those aren not the latest drivers, you should select onder operating system 8.1 and not 8

Thanks - I hadn't spotted the Windows 8.1 option.

However, even after selecting the correct O/S option, the driver versions installed on my laptop still seem to be later than those available on Dell's website:

Driver                   Date/version on Dell's website  Date/version on my laptop

Intel HD Graphics Family 10/29/2013 10.18.10.3304        01/10/2013 10.18.10.3316

Nvidia                   10/29/2013 9.18.13.2649         29/08/2013 9.18.13.2702

The Intel driver is the same as you have: 10.18.10.3316, 10-1-2013

The Nvidia driver is the: 9.18.13.3165, 10-23-2013

Could you post a link to the Nvidia driver you downloaded?

The version of the nVIDIA GeForce 750M Media Accelerator HD driver that Dell's website offers me is 9.18.13.2649, which is earlier than your version.

I see that what you found is correct. You have to right click on the nVidia GeForce Experience icon in Your system tray, and choose look for updates. Then you are sendt to the nVidia site and you get the newest driver there.

Thanks. I've now installed Nvidia driver version 9.18.13.3165 dated 23/10/2013, downloaded from Nvidia's website.

Unfortunately, this hasn't resolved my problem.

Hi, I have the same problem when install at first windows 8 drivers then migrate to 8.1 and install windows 8.1 drivers. Also were installed the drivers that were proposed by windows update for nvidea.

The problem was resolved by recovery factory default windows 8, then migration to 8.1 and installing drivers for windows 8.1 from dell support page only.

There is a fact that if don't change factory default time turn off display this problem doesn't occur. Try set the parameter turn off display to never.

This doesn't help people who do want the display to turn off.

Refer to thread "http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3519/t/19529002.aspx?pi239031352=1#20475337" for a potential work-around to this fault.
