My New Dell Monitor does not give proper colors when I connected to my Laptop

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop and I recently bought a Dell 24' monitor. I tried to connect them using VGA cable. However my new monitor does not give true colors when I connected to my laptop. Its green and blue color. it not reflects Red colour at all. May be there is something wrong with the configurations but I could not figure it out.  Please help me.  Thanks
