7 Beeps is "Processor L2 Cache Memory Test Failure" in plain ole english it means that either the processor is not properly seated or is in fact broken. Since you haven't provided any details about your laptop you can ENTER YOUR SERVICE TAG HERE and under manuals an documents look for the "Service Manual" which will provide step by step instructions for opening your laptop physically and re-seating the processor to rule out actual processor failure. Heed the "Before Your Begin" warnings and advice to reduce the chance of further damaging your laptop. Obviously if your computer is under warranty you need to get in touch with Dell Warranty Service...which is also available from the page you entered your Service Tag on. That's good information to have when you're diagnosing a laptop. Liquid spills however miniscule naturally are the first suspects. All it takes is on well placed drop or drip and you're in for potentially disastrous results. I don't know if you took extended warranty coverage but basic annual warranty won't cover water damage. If you're confident none of it entered the laptop you can send it in and hope there's no liquid damage evident....but in pretty much every case of liquid exposure there are tell-tale symptoms to even the newest technician so if that's what happened you might save yourself the headache of going thru the warranty hoops and then being declined. Good Luck. If this answer was helpful please remember tho hit the YES button and if you need further assistance don't hesitate to contact.
my laptop is inspiron 5520. Does that effect my hard drive? Also is there a specific reason for this failure?
i actually dropped water near my laptop, but there was no actual water touching the laptop. But I still I shutdown the laptop and left it to air dry. I'm guessing that this is the reason?
* And your HDD has about a 50/50 chance of surviving a surge or short that takes the processor. That's engineering level stuff though and has almost no importance to regular people like us! You won't know if your HDD is okay until you either get the Processor reseated or replaced and the computer is up and running again or you take it out and back it up to something else. I apologize for editing this post so significatly. I initailly responded while I was thinking about your problem and another members display issue.
