Dell Inspiron 3521 - Weak screen

Question

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 3521 late last year from Incredible Connection. I operate a small business which is my only source of income, so am completely reliant on my computer for my 'bread and butter', and take extreme care in it's handling and transport. On closing the laptop, my finger lightly touched the screen to support the closing of the computer. This apparently cracked the screen and the screen had to be replaced at a cost of around R 3000-00 to me. Although I had taken out an extended warranty on my laptop with the supplier, told that this as a result of external damage to the computer and it was not covered in the warranty. Although Incredible Connection tried their best to explain the problem to Dell, my explanation of what happened did not make any difference. I am totally unhappy with this. I have had laptops previously and have never experienced anything like this. Surely the screens cannot be so fragile - a light touch from a lady's thumb should not cause such damage. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

No manufacturer covers screen damage under warranty - it's accidental damage. And it doesn't take much force, applied however, to crack a screen - it's just a thin piece of glass.

You would be just as unhappy with any other system and manufacturer -- no one covers this.

I agree. You can always attach an external monitor to the laptop. It will work fine without a laptop screen.
