I severely doubt a brand new laptop you bought only has VGA unless you bought a new laptop that was made more than 5 years ago. Are you sure there isn't an HDMI or mini Displayport? Laptops without VGA are much more the norm these days. Which laptop is it?

Yes you're right it does have HDMI and display port. Ive only ever used the other 2, so didnt know those would work. Im hoping the display port cable will work.

The adapter you bought is for computer video card DVI to VGA to VGA cable to monitor VGA port . Not the other way around. You cannot upconvert from computer VGA port to a monitor DVI port. Your only options are as follows =
Computer HDMI port --> HDMI to DVI adapter --> 3007WFP DVI port
Computer DP (display port) --> DP to DVI adapter --> 3007WFP DVI port

Thanks for the reply Chris, I bought a hdmi- DVI-d adaptor(http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00KWR9VNS/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), it works, however, it only display the screen in 1280x800. Is this the best I'll be able to achieve? As i need it to be at least 1920x1080.

The fact that you are only getting 1280x800 tells me that the cable is not actually transmitting at DVI-D Dual Link. It is only sending a Single Link signal.

Does that mean another cable might work? I dont actually have a display port either- thought one of the usbs was one.

The 3007WFP can only do two resolutions, 1280x800 and 2560x1600. Physically, that is a DVI-D Dual Link connector on the HDMI to DVI-D adaptor, but the adaptor cannot upgrade the laptops video out capabilities. It appears that the HDMI out on the laptop is not able to send 2560x1600.
