Resolution is to not use the drive(s) mentioned as having issues as Dell does not offer any compatibility guarantee.

Put the driver linked below on a flash drive and press F6 during the install of WIndows 8.  Then load this driver - the drive will be seen.

That's not necessarily true.  Are you installing Windows 8 in UEFI mode (GPT required) or in legacy boot mode (MBR)?  If you switch from one to the other you must delete everything on the drive before you do the reload.

UEFI mode with Secure Boot on. I booted Parted Magic (to RAM), did Secure Erase and Windows 8 setup still do not detect SSD.

I repeated this wit legacy mode and also Windows 8 setup can't detect SSD.

Only on ATA mode all is good.

Pendrive 32 GB formatted in FAT32. I used Universal USB Installer 1.9.5.4 to make it.

What media are you using to do the install?  If a USB flash drive, is it formatted FAT32?

I can confirm that this is an issue as well.  No available AHCI driver for SSD support in windows 8.1 install.  Bios set to ATA and windows has no issues.  Unable to clone original hard drive as well due to this AHCI/ATA BIOS

Both tests below have not worked to switch to AHCI after installed with bios option ATA.  And I am unable to locate a driver to install during the windows installation to see the SSD when bios option AHCI is select.

Change from IDE to AHCI after installing Windows 8 - Super User

I have gone through the whole UEIF on or off.  Secure Boot on or OFF.  Tested on initial BIOS and A02 release.  Same issue with any intel drivers for AHCI via Intel Rapid Storage Technology Drivers and even attempted the ones from the Inspiron 11 (3137, Mid 2013) without luck.

So during a clean windows install you were not prompted for sata drivers?

If you were want or were did you locate them.  Download link?

FYI... the Windows 8.1 Update 1 iso has the driver built in.  Just tried booting my Windows 8.1u1 To Go USB stick on the system and it works with AHCI mode.

Yeah it's in GPT (not GTP)...

And Secure Boot enabled.

Okay thanks. I'm not in GTP format. So maybe that is the problem.

I'm going to start over and wipe the drive and attempt to change the format and reinstall. Hopefully I have time to do this tonight.
