HI,

Yes that sounds like a HDD failure, you are on the right track.

New drive and  Recovery CD's that came with computer, your golden.

As you can see, your hard drive needs to be replaced.  If you did not prepare recovery media when you received the system, you will need to contact Dell to purchase that (it hasn't been shipped with new systems for several years now), as you'll need it to reload the OS once you replace the hard drive.

Thank you for your response. Just in case it provides further information about the problem, here are the Diagnostics Test results: Hard Drive test errors: 0F00:1344 Msg: DISK - block 81936 can't read, replace disk. (... same error for several other blocks.) 350F:065B Msg: DISK - DST self-tets electrical error 350F:0244 Msg: DISK - block 81936 can't read, replace disk (... same error for dozens of other blocks (e.g. 24578947, 24580512, etc.)) 350F:0444, 350F:1A44 (... again, both of these for dozens of blocks.) Basically only the SMART test passed. Also, does this Recovery CD come with all DELL orders? I do remember manually making a backup or restore-to-factory-condistions DVD, but I do not remember getting a Reinstallation CD. Thanks a lot for your help.
