A used Inspiron 1525 has me in a tail spin

Question

Undoubtedly, have benefitted from experience operating the unit since being purchased from a pawn shop 4 yrs ago. However, only 1 thing seems to keep me coming back fighting after continuing to be buffeted by computer problems. Nearest thing that I can determine is that the laptop is haywire(or near to it). Have already had the necessity to avail myself of the feature that rescues by wiping out the hard drive & returning things to 'factory spec's'. Wishing it doesn't get it done. Good fellow DELL users: give me the directs because have forgotten how it's done.
