U2913WM, won't wake up from PSM
I just replaced my old Dell 22" monitor with a U2913WM monitor (same computer). The U2913WM has an issue where it won't wake up from power save mode. The monitor is connected to the graphics card with the Dell-supplied dual link DVI cable. When the monitor is in power save mode, the LED on the power button blinks slowly. I jiggle the mouse or press a key on the keyboard to wake it up and the power LED stops blinking and turns solid, but the screen remains blank. Sometimes after I do this the monitor makes a short series of clicking sounds. I've tried turning the monitor off and on, unplugging the power cord for 30 seconds and reset the monitor to factory defaults. The only way to wake the monitor up is to disconnect and then reconnect the DVI cable.

Do you think this is a fault with the monitor? I searched on Google and some other people have the same problem with the Dell U2913WM monitor, so unless there is a later hardware revision available, perhaps the problem would not be solved?

I'm glad that solved your monitor problem, but mine isn't a keyboard issue. It's not my computer that's going to sleep (the computer remains on at all times); it's when I don't use the computer for 10 minutes, the monitor goes into power saving mode like it's supposed to. It should wake up as soon as you move the mouse or press a key, but it doesn't. If I unplug the DVI cable and plug it back in again (while the computer is still going), the monitor does wake up.

OMG, I was searching for a reason to resolve the same issue. You will not beleive what was causing it.
1. I moved the desktop accross the room to connect it to my sisters monitor. The computer booted up fine.
2. I ran the self test on the monitor and there were no problems. So WHY wouldn't the monitor come out of power saving mode?
ANSWER.
Because the keyboard was sticking. As soon as I unplugged the keyboard and pressed the computer power button, BINGO computer works....Monitor works....and no more eating is allowed at the computer.
If a key is stuck, the computer is trying to read a command, that it can't perform!!! So no video signal can be sent, and the computer won't boot up. So why can you read the monitor saying its going into power saving mode. Because it's built into the monitor menu to show that info, if it's not receiving a signal. And it can't receive a signal if keys are stuck down on the keyboard.
Pretty easy fix!!!!!

From my experience this happens quite a bit when using different cables together or switching sources (hdmi/displayport), what seems to work is to unplug ALL cables. Connect only the power cable (it will now turn on), then you can reconnect the cables and it will work.

Would love there to be a fix for this but oh well. I work for a county Municipal Theater in CA and almost all the Dell Monitors I use in the lighting department have this glitch and were slated for disposal by other county offices. and free to us... lol
