Hi GlennDib,

The system supports 2.5 inch SSD hard drive on the system. The system supports SATA 2 technology then the system will downgrade from SATA 3 speed to SATA 2 speed if SATA 3 hard drive is connected.

To advice you about the memory we need to know the system configuration. Please private message us the system service tag. To send a private message, click on my name and send private message.

So if the system downgrades from Sata 3 speed to Sata 2 when a SSD is installed does that mean that there would be no performance advantage of replacing a standard sata 2 with a SSD Sata 3.

Hi GlennDib,

Yes the transfer rate comes down once the SATA technology comes down to SATA 2 speed. But the normal mechanical SATA 2 hard drive is slower than SATA 2 SSD drive. The file access on SSD is faster than the normal mechanical drive.

Need your advise please.

Would I gain better performance from upgrading to the SSD or increasing the system ram from 8GB to 16GB.

Hi GlennDib,

Yes you would require both to increase the performance on the system. The SSD will improve in faster data access on the system. Increasing the memory on the computer will increase the overall performance of the system.

In another post, someone says that it will support SATA 3

What size are SSD drives - how do I know which one to get / which is compatible? I currently have two 500GB non-SSD drives and don't want to give up space ... I need all I can get.

Thank you.
