Any news when Dell releases an update? or should I really downgrade my bios version :-(
At least share with us if we can expect an update before 1 February 2015? If you can't do that, I know you are not working hard enough on the problem and I should downgrade...
Februay 2015? Are you kiddin'? Dell Engineering is a serious, methodical bunch... I'd settle for Februay 2016 :emotion-12:
Any news on a fix. Spent many a happy hour trying to get my Kinect V2 to work with my laptop until I stumbled across this thread. Downgrade the bios to A10 and it was now correctly recognized but I am not convinced its running at the expected USB 3.0 rate.
So when can we expect a proper BIOS fix for this issue?
I have this same issue with BIOS A12. I followed Justin's posting and rolled back to BIOS A10 and the USB 3.0 is running faster. I have a case number with Dell about this and forwarded the suggested remedy.
Thanks for the update. Can you confirm that the "fix" will allow the USB 3.0 ports to operate at full 5Gbps line rate for devices such as the Kinect V2 for Windows device.
Thanks for the quick reply. I know the tech is monitoring this thread. He closed the case out since a fix will be coming. I'm on the road this week so I'll test this next weekend.

Hi Mavster,
Once this issue is resolved the USB 3.0 controller should work at the same speeds as before this issue came up. You can test it out now in BIOS A10 or below.
Ok I suggest that you have another problem that needs to be investigated as currently this laptop is not running the USB interface at 5Gbps from what I can see. When connected with a Kinect v2 (one of the first devices to use USB 3.0 to its full potential) then it only seems to deliver a lot less than this.
How do I go about raising a case to get this investigated since one of the reasons why I bought a E6540 was to connected to a KInect V2.0 and it had the right Intel USB support from what I could see.
You said "I am not convinced its running at the expected USB 3.0 rate."- in order to verify that the USB 3 port is operating according to spec, we would need to have some type of test. I suggest maybe choosing a test utility from the list of utilities here:

Hi VernGraner,
Dell engineering has found the root cause of the problem. We're waiting for engineering to present a solution. Still no ETA.
Thank you for your patience and professionalism.

Justin,
I just spent an hour plus with Prosupport on this today. My Seagate external drive won't run at the higher speeds.
ProSupport doesn't know of a fix or workaround for this issue. My case is still open.
Please let us know if there is a real fix for this issue.
Thank you

www.pcworld.com/.../test-the-speed-of-your-usb-drives.html
Then post results with the same external hardware compared on two different machines that both have USB3.0.

Good day Community,
Dell has released the below BIOS versions which include this fix: "Fixed Typing on internal Keyboard abnormally with Linux OS"
There should be more posted tomorrow, including the E6540. Below are the ones I have so far:
E7240 A14
E7440 A14
M4800 A13
M6800 A13
To Come: E6440 A10, E5440 A11, E5540 A11, E6540 A13, M2800 A05.
Edit: My apologies. I got my threads mixed up. I re-posted the above answer here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/p/19593360/20724592#20724592
More to come on the USB issue.
