I am having the same issue with my Inspiron 17R. I tried holding down the power button for 15 seconds and also taking out the memory, but to no avail. The beeping persists when I power it back on. Is there any other solution to this issue?
I would suggest you reseat a few components, like memory, hard drive and optical drive and see if that makes a difference. In the link below punch in the system service tag or express service code and you can access the user manual for removing and reseating components.
I would suggest you to try starting the system with only memory connected by disconnecting the hard drive, optical drive. It seems like an issue with the motherboard.
I have the exact same problem with the exact same model 17R-5721 i remove everything and same beep... strange thing is that if it start and i put to sleep i have never the problem, it was intermittent and hard to start and i discovered that when put to sleep it always Wake up without any problem. My problem is that one person did a complete shut down and now after one hundred try nothing ! so what is failing when it try to boot ! and it seem common problem since i am not alone !
I have the same issue with my Inspiron 17R-5721. I get a single, continuous beep. I can generally get the laptop to boot-up correctly on the 3rd attempt, but I am worried that eventually my laptop won't turn on at all.
I have removed the battery, reinstalled the battery and held the power button for 15 seconds then released and still the beeping continues.
I've removed and reinstalled the memory, but that doesn't help either.
Please provide next steps. I have really liked my Dell, but this is extremely frustrating, especially since I use this laptop to work remotely.
Unfortunately the motherboard was bad. I had a service contract with a third party provider who replaced the motherboard and the SSD drive. I have a standard drive now and things have been OK. I been using my laptop for about 6 weeks since it was fixed and things have been fine.

Hi Shock96,
I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.
In addition, if there is no stoppage of beeps and each beep is continuous then it should be memory issue.

Hey Ravi, thanks for the reply! I have done all the steps you listed several times with the same issue coming up.
The beeps continue and there is no beep code. It is just a constant beep every 1.5 seconds or so.
I agree that it is most likely the memory so I am going to swap it out and see what happens.
Thanks!
Mike

Hi Mike,
I would suggest you to remove the memory from the system and check if you are receiving the same beep pattern.

I have actually pulled the memory and got no beeps at all. The system powers up for about 5 seconds and then shuts off.
I have yet to try another set of sticks to see if the memory is bad. I don't have any laying around. Working on finding a pair.

Ok, so I tried different sticks of memory, reseated everything and the results are still the same.
Any other ideas? Thanks!

I am having the same issue, but now it's like 10-12 or more times taking the power supply off and plugging it back in before it give me the screen.
Did you ever get this fixed? If so....please tell me how.
