Dell Printer Easy Install doesn't find C2665dnf

I've got a Dell C2665dnf on our small office network. I am attempting to install it on our PCs with this software, but the installer doesn't find the printer.

I select Connect > Wireless or Ethernet Connection > Next > OK. I then see the “Dell Printer Easy Install / Select Printer” page, with a popover dialog that says “Searching for printer. Please wait.” After several minutes, the dialog disappears and the printer is not listed.

I can “add printer manually” with TCP/IP and it works fine, but I'd really like the automatic installer to work.

Everything is in the 192.168.1.0/24 network. The computers are on Windows 7 64-bit and the printer is on the latest firmware. <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

I think I’ve narrowed down the problem. The printer is found and installed fine when I run the installer in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3.

To be clear, here's what I did:

  1. Run the self-extracting installer, but don't let it run the exe.
  2. Open the folder and set compatibility mode on setup.exe to Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
  3. Run setup.exe
  4. Then I chose the Wireless or Ethernet option, and the printer was quickly found.

It also seems to work if I set compatibility mode on dl3cwias.exe and run it.

This workaround will get me by for now, but I think it indicates a problem in Dell's code. If anyone had examples of it working on Windows 7, that would be interesting.

Make sure that the firewall is not blocking the discovery. If you are using Ethernet connection(LAN) , it should work well. Try using WSD port, it has the advantage of auto IP Address mapping.

The firewall is off.

The funny thing about the WSD port is that it doesn't show up either, except after the printer has been found on IP, and then only sometimes. (I've installed it now >30 times.)

Another note: the printer has a static IP.
