Hi seedymofo,

Dell Inspiron N5010 has not been tested for Windows 8.1 operating system. I would suggest you to download and install the Card reader driver on the system using the compatibility mode. You will find card reader driver listed under chipset section. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, click on ‘Get drivers and downloads’, select the OS, then download the card reader driver from chipset section onto the system and install it.

Thanks for your suggestion but I downloaded the correct file and installed it in compatibility mode trying both Win 7 and Vista modes but neither worked. My card reader is therefore still unusable.
