Also, the Dell 2408WFP image in the "Sound" window shows a green sound bar moving up and down, but I cannot hear anything.  If you right click and go to the sub-window "Properties" or "Test" there is no sound.  FYI, "Speakers/Headphones" image in the "Sound" window has a sound bar that is not moving, but when you go the sub-window "Properties" test button does create a chime sound.  Thanks...

I reloaded the sound drivers and unknown device went away.  Where I only had the "High Definition Audio Device" before... I now have a "IDT High Definition Audio DODEC".  But, I still don't have sound.  When I go to "Volume Mixer - DELL 2408WFP (High Definition Audio Device" window: the Device column has Dell 2408 and the shows device volume going up and down with the music; Windows Media Player volume bar is also going up and down; but the Systems Sounds application volume bar is at zero (lowest point) with no movement.  When I go into Speakers/Headphones Properties sub-window within the Sound window under Speakers / Headphones using test button under "Advance" folder, I can hear the chime with the internal system speaker and with headphones (but not the media players music).  Sound is much more important than Bluetooth, since I need Skype for work.  Thank you for your help.

On the sound window the image for the Dell 2408WFP has a sound bar reflecting sound, the bar is going up and down. But, when you go to the properties sub-window the test button doesn't produce sound.  On the Speakers/Headphones image in the Sound window the sound volume bar isn't moving (zero). But, if you go the sub-window "Properties" the test button does work for the internal speaker and headphones. Neither Digital Audio (HDMI) image in the sound window doesn't have a sound bar, but has a red down arrow.

thank you for your help.

Hi ,

I would seek your assistance here since you mentioned that "If you right click and go to the sub-window "Properties" or "Test" there is no sound. "Speakers/Headphones" image in the "Sound" window has a sound bar that is not moving, but when you go the sub-window "Properties" test button does create a chime sound. "

I would ask you to confirm if you hear any audio when the system boots or when you are watching a video on youtube do you hear any audio with internal ,external ,speakers or earphones.

Awaiting your reply .

The sounds works!!! But only if the HDMI cable to my Dell monitor is unplugged.  I tried disabling the HDMI from the Sound window, but that didn't work.  And, now the HDMI icon don't even show in sound window.  I guess I need to setup external speakers plugged into my Dell monitor (Model 2408WFPb)? Or is their a way to enable the non-HDMI sound ports? Is their a way to turn back on (get the icon back within the sound window) the HDMI sound function in the sound window?

Thanks,

Bill

Hi ,

I would request you to confirm if you are using a Latitude E6330 system with an external monitor connected or is it any other system about which we are discussing.

Now if you say its the same Latitude E6330 which is giving this audio issue ,then I am asking you to check after disconnecting the monitor were you able to hear any audio from the system's internal speakers at any time .And to the left of this E6330 we have Headphone / Microphone Combo Jack and Iam asking you to connect a headphone/ microphone to this port disconnect the monitor connected to the HDMI port then check if any audio is heard.

If audio is heard from internal or external speakers without the monitor then it is certain that system's internal speakers and headphone port are fine we need to make certain software changes in settings to resolve the issue.

But If it is another system then do forward the service tag of the system via private message so that I check the specifications of that system .If you want to icon back to the sound window then via advanced boot options we can roll back the windows to the settings when the audio was working fine  with the help of last known good configuration (but make sure your data is backed up).

Awaiting your reply .

Kind Regards,

Jennifer

Yes, it is the E6330.  I have the headphone jack, internal speakers and monitor headphone jack working now. YEA!!!! I'm not sure what happen to the two sound apps for HDMI and codec that disappeared when I disable them in the Sound window.  I'm not sure to leave well enough alone....   I really appreciated your help.

Bill

Hi,

Thanks for your reply !

Now that you have confirmed that the headphone jack ,internal speakers and monitor headphone jack is working then its confirmed that the system's hardware is working perfectly fine. Now may I  know what is the audio codec that is installed on your system with which you are facing issues.

Awaiting your response.

Kind Regards,

The sound applications that no longer appear in the "Sound" window were 1) IDT High Definition Audio Codec and 2) Intel Display Audio. I disabled them when they where in the "Sound" window, thinking I could enable them later... but, they disappeared from the "Souns" window.  I'm not sure I need them. FYI: this is still E6330.

Thank you,

Bill

Hi ,

There are 2 methods by which you can enable the devices ,

1)Right click on the Volume control options ,then click on sound then go to playback tab right click anywhere in that window ,you should be able to view that option which says show disabled devices and show disconnected devices ,enable both of them ,then apply the settings then click ok .

2)If this doesn't work then got to control panel ,under programs and features you should be able to view IDT High Definition Audio Codec and  Intel Display Audio ,re-install them both and start the system .

Just incase both these steps fail to work then I would suggest you install the audio drivers from our support site and then restart the system .Click here for the link .

The system is working very well except for Bluetooth.  During the boot process, it says the Bluetooth switch is on... but during the driver install process it asks to enable the switch to complete the driver install, I switch off and on the external switch with no effect. The only  option is cancel the Bluetooth driver install.

Hi ,

Than you for the reply !So as far as my understanding there are no more issues with the audio or the wifi .Its only the bluetooth driver that we are unable too install.

I am trying to get some more information to get this issue sorted from the product team .In the mean time I would request you to ensure data is backed up and forward the invoice copy of the system via private message so that as an alternate option I can arrange for the system to be collected for repair  and delivered back within 12 -15 business days as per the warranty active on the machine .

Kind Regards ,

A difficulty I found in matching the "BCM20702A0" up with its correct Driver file for another model DELL laptop, the Precision M4800, is the lack of a matching device name within the "Drivers & downloads" collection for the model.

All Drivers listed begin with, "Dell Wireless..." or "Intel..." and I believe this device to be manufactured by Broadcom.  So, the feedback I would like to provide is that Driver files should always include a name that is SEARCHABLE on Dell.com.  For BCM20702A0 the "Hardware Ids" are VID = "413C" and PID = "8143".

I also tried letting Windows 7 automatically search for the best Driver for another device, showing as "Network Controller" (Hardware Ids of: VEN = "14E4", and DEV = "43B1") and the search failed.

Without a device being easy to identify based either on its name or VEN and DEV information, a User might be left guessing which driver is the correct one OR downloading all eleven (11) of them in the case of the Precision M4800 and that is a pain in the ***.  I am downloading a 47 Mb Driver file as I write this, but unfortunately the network connectivity at the location is rather slow and it took ~17 minutes to download the file.  Can you imagine if I were to try downloading all 11 files on this same connection? - A more customer friendly approach is to have Drivers and devices clearly labeled and easy to identify in all cases.

I did attempt to use the Scan your system option on the Drivers page, but for some reason it did not run correctly.  I believe this was strictly a web browser issue and not in any way connected to the download or scanning activity; the browser was just acting strange.

Devices that have shipped out into the world should be fully searchable and capable of being updated automatically, or at least identified easily, instead of being the equivalent of a "mystery device" if the system needs to be reloaded.

Thank you for allowing this post and I hope it is of some use to other Community members as well.
