Do I upgrade or do I buy a new computer?

Good afternoon. I want to know if my Alienware laptop M17x-R3 can be upgraded? (Video cards, Ram, etc) I was given a Canadian support number to call but I couldn't wait the 30 minutes. I ask this because my FPS drops and doesn't seem to like high quality graphics anymore. Depending on costs, and if I can upgrade, is it cheaper getting parts or just buying a new system?
