Follow my guide here:

You may want to securely with DBAN in order to have a complete clean install.

DBAN is Darik's Boot and Nuke, its a free utility for securely wiping your system. I prefer using it to format the system before reinstallation.

Your USB flash drive should work, try to format it before using it and restart your computer to make sure no other program is trying to access it.

"Disc Image File" is a .iso likely you have some program like Roxio installed which changes the icon.

Thanks! I didn't think anyone would respond a day after! I followed all the steps so far, but when I got to Rufus, it wouldn't let me burn the .iso file. It always has the error "Error: access to the drive has been denied." Could it be my flash drive? I have a Lexar (by Micron) 16GB (E:) flashdrive. Or could it be the way I saved? It's saved as Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and it's saved as a Disc Image File, which I feel is the wrong way. Does .iso HAVE to be at the end of it? Because I think I forgotten it. And, not to sound stupid, but what does DBAN mean? It doesn't really explain anything like that. Sorry for asking all these questions, but please reply ASAP! Windows Technical Preview is getting REALLY BUGGY. Please help as soon as you can!

Thanks!

Thanks for the info! So far I've formatted my flashdrive and nothing's on it. But now I'm having another problem, on pretty much every website that has a Windows 7.iso, they have the same link, which is digital river, but when I click it, Internet Explorer says the page can't be displayed. Could it be something with the Tech Preview or maybe something with my ISP/router? Because I have "meh" internet around here. But I think it is because it usually happens around night. I remember being able to get on that site but now I can't. Could there be anything wrong? Please reply if you know any solutions or ideas.

Also, now if I try to download something it says page can't be displayed! So now I can't get DBAN or a Windows 7.iso! What could it be?!

Hello again,

I can download the iso now but when I go to burn it to USB, it always never burns it to the USB. (Meaning that it fails ALL the time!) I've tried Rufus and ISO to USB, even the Windows USB/DVD tool yet it still won't burn! How can I burn it without my flashdrive failing!

What are you using to create the flash drive?

What .iso did you download (version, language and architecture) and what is the size of it? Have you tried another USB flash drive?

Also, it includes SP1.

I downloaded the Windows 7 Home Premium x64 (English version) iso. Its size should be: 3,243,070KB (It said on the Windows 7 forums with the latest links from Digital River, but i'll be sure to double check when Windows Tech Preview stops getting buggy... It won't let me check my flashdrive right now at the moment) It can fit on my Lexar 16 GB flashdrive, the only problem is burning it on Rufus since it always never works. I formatted and everything, yet it still won't burn!

Please reply ASAP if you know a solution or maybe an idea!

So far, I've used Rufus but as soon as I clicked on Start, it said "Error: Access is denied." I've tried formatting and everything yet I still get that error. I've also tried a program called ISO to USB, but even that won't work, even the official Windows USB/DVD tool! What could be the problem?

My first suggestion would be to try another USB flash drive. You can try also running Rufus and the Windows 7 USB/DVD tool in compatibility mode for Windows 7.

Sorry I didn't reply earlier, but I finally got Windows 7 on my computer! I accidentaly kept on saving the iso onto the flashdrive! But I still have a problem, Windows 7 won't even connect. I've checked my router, checked its plugs, everything! Yet it still says there's a plug broken or something. Is there a way I can connect, it surely can't be the router! I just bought it!

P.S. Also, it says that my product key is invalid, yet it's on the bottom of the computer! Can you not use the same product key during reinstallation, or does it have to be connected to the Internet to see if it's valid?

That makes sense, it cannot simultaneously load the .iso and format the drive when the .iso is on the drive.

There can be issues using the OEM product key with the retail install. When using that key you need to call Microsoft. You are better to use the ABR program with Dell cert files and restore the Dell OEM SLP product activation, the same method of product activation used with the Dell factory install/Dell Reinstallation DVD. See here:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/a-clean-install-of-windows/microsoft-product-activation/the-activation-backup-and-recovery-program-windows-vista-7-version/

The in ability to connect is likely because you have not installed any system drivers. Provide the hardware IDs and model:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/downloading-drivers-checking-hardware-ids-and-downloading-and-installing-dell-system-drivers-in-the-correct-order/checking-hardware-ids-in-the-device-manager/

We can then instruct you on what drivers to install and to install the drivers in the correct install order. I advise patching Windows 7 fully using WSUS Offline Update before installing any system drivers:
