Hi,

As per the update from Microsoft, Any machine that runs Windows 7 should be able to run Windows 10 without any issues.

Regarding the drivers, it is unlikely that Dell will release the Windows 10 driver for this model as it was shipped with only Windows 7.

You may check for compatible drivers from the vendor websites(Intel, AMD,Broadcom etc)

Thank you.

Hi,

Yes if you're unable to find the drivers from vendors site, You can use generic drivers.

Regarding the update, it is up to you.

In terms of features and functionality, Windows 10 will be better than Win7 and Win 8.1, however the question is Will you be able to use all of those in a 5yr old machine?

We need to wait for that as the product is not even released.

Thank you

i have inspiron N5010 and i installed windows 10 it worked fine at the beginning then after update it crashes. i uninstalled  and reinstalled the windows 10 more than 3 times and every time it crashes after update and i found that the VGA driver is causing this issue when i remove the driver it works fine but i have no control on the update to prevent windows from installing that driver again, moreover that issue is now happening on windows 7 also which was fine before

anyone have a solution or driver that works without crashing

In the bulk of cases Windows 10 will get all the drivers it needs from Windows updates for that vintage of hardware.

I have downloaded Windows 10 on my N5010 but the speakers no longer work. The sound works only with headphones when on the Edge replacement of IE.

I find this action by Dell difficult to believe. After all the hoopla regarding Windows 10, and Microsoft stating their analysis of my system being compatible for the upgrade, it never occurred to me that my 1564 laptop was obsolete. I spent three days trying to get my printer working after installing Win 10, only to find it wasn't possible. I'm very disappointed in Dell's (non) action concerning driver updates.

I had been looking forward to testing Windows 10 on my "5 year old" 1564 prior to buying a new Dell laptop, but think I'll be looking elsewhere, now.

I haven't checked any other mfrs., but it also amazes me that this major issue wasn't at least mentioned by anyone earlier. Your post was the first mention I've seen regarding this, meanwhile Microsoft keeps reminding me to reload the upgrade that I was forced to remove.

I will be checking other computer brands, if their policy was different, I'll be more inclined to purchase my new unit from them.

i totally agree with you! i am in the same situation, but the comerce must win always ; since our laptops were produced they released tons of new models so if u really want windows 10 you are forced to buy a newer laptop. this policy is applied  also in other domains(smartphones, cars, etc) by many manufacturers.

i am curios if other names like toshiba, hp, asus are in the same situation ; i mean if laptops released 4-5-6 years ago have or will have driver support for windows 10

man, to be honest, i can not afford to change laptops from year to year, so this is one of the reasons that i started this thread.

from my opinion not only the build quality of the product and  the hardware configuration makes a product the best ; it is very important also the future support you'll have with it.

please do this research and post here if u see another mfrs. who offers win10 driver support for older laptops, so i'll know in the future when i'll aquire other laptop :)

cheers!
