Hi ,

Thank you for writing to Dell Community Forum .

Request you to provide some more information about the issue ,

*When the charger is connected to the system does the light on the charger stay on ? If it goes off then the system board has gone faulty along with the port to which the charger connects .

*Also confirm if the power button fails to light up or if its amber or anything else .

Now that you have confirmed the battery and charger work fine on another Dell laptop then we can conclude those components work fine .

This is the link which has the contact no for Dell Finnish tech support alternatively you may reply to this no with the service tag ,system owners name ,contact no (sent via private message ) so that I can verify the warranty and other details necessary to assist you  further .

Awaiting your response ,

Regards ,

Hi,

Thanks for the reply - here's the additional info you have asked for:

The charger light stays on the whole time.

The power button does not light up at all.

Regards,

Mick

Hi,

I am at work right now, but I'll try what you have suggested when I get home in a few hours and let you know if it has worked.

My fingers are crossed!

Thanks,

Mick

Hi  Mick,

Thank you for the reply ! Try to release the flea power from the system ( to do so disconnect charger and battery from system and keep the power button pressed for 15-20 secs here we are trying to release the static charge from the system )

If this fails its a case of faulty system board .Do reply to this post with the result of this test along with the service tag of the system ( via private message only )

Kindest Regards ,

Hi Jennifer,

I tried what you suggested about discharging the flea power. First time nothing happened and after 2 more tries over an hour, the laptop booted up.

I left it powered up at the windows log-in screen as I was going out. When I got back after a few hours it had shut down and now it won't power up again. The situation is exactly the same as before, no lights at all on the laptop itself, both power cord and battery ok.

I have tried the flea power thing several times now over 2-3 hours and so far nothing has worked.

I think my Dell warranty expired in April, so a repair under warranty wouldn't be an option.

Are there any other things I could try...?

Thanks,

Mick

Good day Mick,

Based on the troubleshooting performed ,this seems to be a case of system board failure since the systems battery and charger work on a different system .

Now since you have mentioned that system's warranty has expired earlier we can arrange for a quotation to be sent out for you with the price for the part and technician's service .Alternatively you may contact any local dell re-seller who can assist you with the part replacement  .

I hope this helps .

Kindest Regards ,
