You need to reinstall the wireless drivers from Intel site. So, download the new drivers, uninstall the old drivers - restart the system - install the new drivers. Thats it!
Firstly, what is the exact system model? As there are 3 models in studio xps 16 - 1640, 1645 and 1647
Intel 5300 is compatible to work with Studio XPS 1640 and 1645. Considering you have mentioned that you have an i7 proc, I assume it to be a 1647. If so, then it is not compatible to upgrade.
You need to confirm the model. You could restart the system, press f2 to enter BIOS. You will find the system model there. If not, go to support.dell.com -> http://dell.to/1Pwntme - enter the service tag - it will display the system model.
I am guessing that it is all systems go, for me to now go ahead an purchase the Intel wifi link 5300.
Whilst doing so, i have seen a couple videos on how i would fit the new wireless card, but is their any software changes or updates i would need to do aswell? or is it literally as simple as remove the old, an slot in the new card?
