Hi Edwin,

Not sure how much help I can be, but I'll throw out a few ideas.

I remember back when it used to take Windows a (relatively) long time to boot up and there were issues with Active Domains "timing" out their authentication before Windows could provide credentials.  Does that system take a long time (or heck, a very short time) to boot up compared to others?

When that system cold boots what IP address does it end up with?  I assume its a 164 address?

When that system does connect to the network how is the connection speed?   Wondering if there may be some latency with the NIC that is aggravated during a cold boot (and thus slower load time)?

You said this particular system.  Do you also have other E5250s that log into the the domain with any issues?

Curious to find out what you have discovered.  Let me know if any of these questions help at all.   I'm going to reach out to someone I know that works with Latitudes and AD on a regular basis to see if they can suggest any other questions.

Hi Todd,

First off thanks for responding.

All the laptops we use at our company have an ssd drive and do start up pretty fast, also when it starts up its in our network range 10.1.50.*

We also have another E5250 laptop but this one seems to work normally, tried some tests by shutting it down and safe boot etc. but this one had no problems with logging into the domain.

Also the laptop is connected to a cable in the domain and is connected to a second screen, so I unplugged all these but that didn't do anything as well..

Anyway thanks a lot for looking into this!

Wait, so even hardwired into the domain it still won't register / login on a cold boot?  Okay, that's just plain weird.  At least, to me it's weird.  I have an IM out to a friend that does a lot of work with the Latitude lines and domains to see if he can point me in the right direction.  Looks like he's out to lunch right now so I'll stop back when / if I get a lead.

Hi,

My contact isn't really sure what is happening, it could be a problem with the NIC itself.  He recommends that you contact Dell Tech Support directly and they may be better suited to help you figure out what is causing your symptoms.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Hi Todd,

Alright, thanks a lot for the help already. I will contact Dell support and check with them.

Meanwhile I could try a new installation of Windows and check if that changes things.

Thanks anyway.

Regards,

Edwin

Edwin,

Let me know if the OS reinstall does work.  I'd be curious to find out.
