Dell Wireless 1707 802.11/b/g/n (2.4 GHZ) slow/unresponsive

Hello! I have recently changed laptops. At the moment I have changed from my Gateway NV55C to now the Dell Inspiron 5545 with the AMD A10 and 1TB HDD. The change has been great to say the least, but the one problem that I am having is the wireless card. Occasionally it is unable to keep a connection or just sometimes just slows down...like a lot. I have resorted to just use my ethernet cable as it is a ton faster than using wireless. I have done a lot of looking into what the cause of the problem would be (and a really hope it isn't a hardware problem that needs to be sent in) and have tried just about all the possible solutions (from the power settings, updating the driver, to adjusting transmit and receive buffers) and have not really had any positive results. And just to add some more specifications to this my Gateway ran a Atheros AR5B97 and the router that I currently use is a Buffalo WZR-600HP. Any help would be great, thank you!

And to put an additional perspective on the difference I have taken two screenshots of the download speeds via speedtest.

Hey there...,

I recently bought Dell Inspiron 17 5000 (Dell Wireless 1705 802.11b/g/n (2.4GHZ))and had problems with wifi.

On my old laptop(toshiba) i had great speed but n Dell i could barely open new tab(it would take 2-3 min to open it or it wouldnt open it all)

I tried many things but problem was solved by going to Internet Explorer/internet options/advanced/reset internet explorer settings....................after that you will need to restart laptop ( i chose restart and update so maybe updates fixed the problem but who cares wifi speed is now same as on other laptop).

Maybe it will work on your laptop as well

UPDATE:
Hello again. I just thought I would post an update of the issue. It appears that after an upgrade to Windows 10 my download speed has increased significantly. Although it is not to the full potential of what my Gateway could handle but well enough for me to bear with it.

I was just cruising by and saw these posts about the seriously slow connectivity you all are experiencing.

I was having the same problems with my Inspiron 11 3147 laptop, and was so frustrated with it---it was about to go out the window.  I found this YouTube video about doing some enhancements to the system, and let me just say, this laptop is now faster than my brand new $1200 dollar HP tower that is balls to the wall fast.  https://youtu.be/4zwHuRD170g?list=PLT49Jg7Tkqgx648OTXSr2ui772M27Hlwu

If I could make a suggestion, it would be to definitely upgrade some of your components.  Especially the network adapter (wifi card).  The stock adapter is ridiculously slow.  I just upgraded it to the [Intel 7265 Dual Band Wireless-AC 802.11ac Dual Band 2x2 NGFF Wi-Fi 7265NGW abgn+ac Adapter].  This allows for 867 mbps speeds.

I did all his recommendations, although he stated it could be done for around 130 bucks, in actuality it cost about $200.  BUT ITS THE BEST INVESTMENT I'VE MADE EVER.  Laptop is so fast now, there is literally no wait time for boot ups and it fly's over the internet.

In truth, the hard drive he suggested is smaller than the original hard drive that comes with the machine.  And eventually I will have to upscale it to 500gb+, but for now, it's doing the job.

So I hope you read this, watch the video, and I hope this will help you upgrade the equipment you have to optimize your performance.

Cheers

I have an Inspiron 5348, and the Dell 1707 is getting download speeds of 8-10Mbps:

I tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them yet the download speeds are still slow.  I borrowed my coworker's USB network adapter, and I get 75-79Mbps download speeds:

It sounds like this a widespread issue with this Dell WIFI card.  Does anyone have any suggestions or is my only option at this point to get Dell to replace this network card/PC?

I have a Dell Inspiron 5348, and the Dell 1707 wifi card is getting download speeds of 9-11mbps:

Things I tried in an attempt to get acceptable download speeds:
1. Uninstalling the drivers and the adapter, and downloading the latest drivers from Dell and reinstalling them
2. Disabling the "Allow Windows to turn off this network adapter to save power"
3. Setting Power Saving mode to "Maximum Performance" for this network adapter

I was wondering if there was some other factor to the low speeds as my other devices get around 90mbps download speeds.  So I borrowed a coworker's USB network adapter and tried it on my Dell and got 75-79Mbps downloads:

Is there anything else I can try before returning this All-in-one to Dell?

I have a new Dell Inspiron  15  a few days back, and have found that the computer is communicating with the WIFI modem/router at a blazing 72.2 mbps.  My other computer, a desk top, is showing 300 mbps to the same modem/router.  I have checked here on the Dell site for any information that could help get the speed up, but so far, nothing of interest that works.  This is running the Windows 10, personal.

This is the 1707 801.11 b/g/n hardware.  Software shows up to date when I check to update drivers.  Don't know what else it could be at this point.  I don't have another wifi card to use with the laptop.

There must be a glitch in the software or hardware for that matter, in the laptop.  I just can't figure it out.  Hope someone has an answer.  WiFi status remains at 72.2 Mbps no matter what.

Thanks.

Not really.  I think this is just a cheap laptop which Dell has put out for Fingerhut, and other discount stores.  It does run slow, and it's connections to the internet are also slow.  I should have returned this laptop within the 30 day trial period, but didn't.  You may want to return the one your have and see if you can find something a bit better.
