The border is there in part to make room for the webcam/microphone and the touchscreen. It's not a problem with your system or your drivers - that's the way the system is designed.
I bought Dell inspiron 15 3542 touchscreen laptop recently. Its 15.6 " display. But its having black borders between the bezel and the visible screen. It seems like the screen designed that way ,surely not driver or video card issue. Its hardware issue for sure
Well, I am pretty Iritated with this computer right now. I really regret buying it. I just had a series of problems that ended with a black border like yours. First I was watching a video on Facebook, then suddenly the screen went black and I was logged out. It was irregular the way it happened, I have had my screen go dark because of time, but this time it was different. I was instantly locked out and when I logged back in Firefox was shutdown. And when I opened Firefox back up, my tabs were not reoppened as if it had crashed. So I go back to watching videos and then the top of my screen starts flickering like their is a problem with the graphics system. Then I notice my screen looks different, it is now smaller because of a 1/4 inch gap between the edge of the physical screen and where the screen image is. I thought it might be OS related so I booted into BIOS/ UEFI, but the gap persisted even there. I conclude that it is not OS or file system related.
Another problem I have had is with the WIFI. This happens after it sleeps; when I log back in I can see the WIFI signals but I cannot connect with any, even the one that I was just connected to just minutes before. I have tried my hotspot on my phone and still nothing. I then have to either reboot, or run the diagnostic of the WIFI.
same issue here with Inspiron 5000 bought just 2 days ago from Costco. If this issue cannot be resolved, then I'm happy to return the product and get the HP one.

I don't mean the bezel containing the webcam and microphone. There's a border between the bezel and the part of the screen displaying an image.
Please see image.
Has anyone else seen this before on a Dell Inspiron?
Surely it's some kind of manufacturing defect? I've never seen such a thing in 15 years of using laptops!
Can someone from Dell confirm?

If it's less than 21 days from shipment and was purchased from Dell, return it for a refund (minus restocking charge).

I've never seen a laptop (inc touchscreen) with a border like that before, Dell or other manufacturer.
Is the picture a 7000 series?
What's the native resolution on it (HD/FHD/QHD)?

This is a brand new Dell Inspiron at Best Buy. It comes like this. It is how they make some of their screens now days that are touch screen.
